You can usually tell by the steel

VG-10 = Japan
ZDP = Japan
S30V, S90V = Golden (except S30V Sage = Taiwan)

It's a fairly short list, and Spyderco does not seem to feel the need to divide models up on the website by country of origin, the way they do by steel, handle material, etc.

Current production models would be:
  • C36 Military
  • C41 FRN Native
  • C63 Chinook III
  • C81 ParaMilitary
  • C94 UK Penknife
  • C103 Pikal (and trainer)
  • C117 Citadel
  • C121 Embassy
  • B02 Small Fly (and trainer)
  • B03 SzaboFly
There was also a recent Sprint run revival of the C95 Manix which may still be fairly easy to find.

As for current models made in other countries,

China - Tenacious (as previously noted) and the entire Byrd line

Taiwan - Sage (as previously noted) and "S"

Italy - the four Hossom Fixed Blades

All the others, aside from the ones already noted as being made in Golden, are made in Japan.

Very true, Tony. I wasn't really focusing on where the steels are from... just the correlation between steel and mfg in.... but your point is a good one with the sage being the only one where steel country =/= knife country.

..... and I always forget about the models made in Italy.... The Volpe was cool.

Please forgive me if this redundant, these knives you list are Golden CO production ?

That's correct. Those are the ones currently being made which are made in Golden CO. The others are all made somewhere else, and, aside from those noted in my later post as being from China, Taiwan, or Italy, are all made in Japan. Not sure if they're all made in Seki or not, as some of the Japanese makers do not include that information as part of the tang stamp.
