So... Today my husband had a pleasant surprise for me! I left my computer desk for a few minutes and, when I returned, the surprise had suddenly "appeared" on top of my laptop: _The Spyderco Story_!!!!

Since I "only" have to read about 9 books during this term for my classes, I have added this one to my list as well. I just flipped through it in pure bliss and oh... long hours of enjoyment await me in those pages. I do not know when I will post a review, but it will come sometime between now and April (this term ends in March).

So, I guess the next item on my list is now a Chinese Folder, right?

Hola Clay!

How's your project going? Last night I read about a third of the book, I could not put it down! I will continue sometime this week, after my first examinations are over. So, far, I love the story.

G'day Kahz,

Not much progress on the boat as the kids have been running me ragged over the holidays and we've been away a couple of times. However I've got my shed all tidied up and had a sail on a similar boat to see what changes I might need to make. Today I'm going to glue up the blanks for the dagger board and rudder so that I'll have something to work on in my free time at school which starts again next week. It's going to be a long haul and I don't expect to get the hull together and finished until I take some long service leave later in the year.
quote:
So, far, I love the story.

I agree but I found the ending rather unsatisfactory. It left me feeling unfulfilled and needing to buy more Spydies .

Take care,
Clay

Kahz- Only nine?? That's bush league where I come from! Oh well, somehow, if the book is good, the numbers don't matter. Enjoy!

What else do you have on the reading list? Anything interesting, or typical University drivel?

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Clay,

I am so jealous. One of my dreams is owning my own small boat (and to be its captain, of course) and sailing away with my husband, equipped with an icebox full of beer, with no worries or return date. If I had a previous life, I must have been a sailor or explorer.

Sword and Shield, yes, "only", actually, it's not bad, but consider I am taking anthropology courses and that means I have to read a good deal. The good thing is that I love to read. Most of the books are University work, but all are very interesting! I just finished a short article on osteological (bone) analysis and I think I found yet another passion for my life. A good book and a Spydie to play with, and I am set.

J Smith, do you expect me to do as in _Farenheit 451_? (Ray Bradbury) It will take me some time to memorize all and pass it on, but I can make that a lifetime goal.

I am halfway through the _Spyderco Story_, btw. The Military just creeped its way into my subconscious after reading about it. Uh-oh...

Way to go Kahz!

You must have a great husband, as he has thought to provide you with the most needed things of life!

I just got my own copy of the Spyderco Story last Tuesday. I LOVE THAT BOOK! I had to have it for my presentation, so I ordered it 2nd Day Air from Barnes and Noble. This was NOT a wise move. I ended up spending $84 bucks to get it on time....
~It is worth every penny, though.

Ah! A new trend, huh? So, it sounds like you are going to be tormented with "Milli-o-ritus"; a highly contagious and fast spreading disease.

-Are you still thinking about getting a Chinese Folder? NewGrahm.com has some blue models left, for $109.......

Enjoy the book, Kahz!

SpyderNut,

My philosophy is: "If you like it, and you can afford it, get it!" So, whatever you spent on the book, it must be worth it if you were willing to pay for it. That goes for anything else.

Value is in the eye of the beholder.

Point well taken, Kahz.

I agree: If you want it bad enough, soon enough, then you will cough up the funds required to gain that item.

I knew that when I had to have it delivered on 2nd Day Air that it would be expensive, but I don't regret now doing it that way.
[ I think I would just try to exercise some "fore thought" before I had a need arise. ]

Anyway, what page are you at now in the BOOK? Lemme' guess, you will probably spend all night going through it. Right?
I did the same thing....

Enjoy!

Hey Kahz! That was indeed : A BIG SURPRISE! Congrats on the great gift. Thank your husband for me will ya! Now that your quest is almost complete, (well, with the book of books on Spydies, more knives will come your way...) I hope you will be more enlightened with Ken Delavigne's chronicle on the days of the Spyder.. Personally, I found it highly inspirational with Poppa Spyder's personal attributes to each an every knife he had produced.. Nine books? Whoah! That's more than I could stomach.. Good luck with the term papers!

Kahz- Some of us are destined to travel the world, in search of any and all things bizarre and interesting. Some only get to dream.

Hey, combine 3 passions! Sail the world, in search of ancient forms of human life, determining which Spyder would have best fit their prehistoric hands.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Sword and Shield,

I should just make sure to not lose track of my dreams while I live my life, right?

So far, I have only experienced three continents (the Americas, Europe, and Northern Africa, only Morocco), but I still have that Asian goal with me. Actually, I am pursuing a personal-interest research regarding the construction and use of ancient weapons, so maybe I can share my findings and learnings in a few years.

I had to put the book on hold, I am halfway through it, but I have some much material to cover for my examinations that my time is getting limited. YIKES! I will see you all in a few days when I get a little more relaxed.

Go watch "Le Pacte des Loups", btw, that movie rocks!

Kahz,

Here's a picture of what my little boat should look like when it's finished. It's about 15'6" long, what Americans call a flat-iron skiff. Jus about enough space for a husband and a crate of beer .

Clay,

What a nice boat!!!! Are you going to paint it nice colors like that as well? I like that sail! I know nothing about boats yet... yet! I must get started soon. Once I move to Toronto, I will be on the lookout for more hands-on learning so I can sail the Great Lakes.

Hey, I forgot to include Oceania in my future travels. One of these days I might drop in and say "G'day, Clay!" I wonder if my donkey can swim...

Back to studying... (I need these little breaks)

That boat color looks like "imperial jade green".

The boat is a bueaty Clay. Good on ya. I think that size is the most fun. I had a 14 footer and had a lor of fun until we had an involuntary jibe and my wife quit after swimming to shore.

Kahz;
Your esposo is a keeper! Tell us more. What is his EDC? He must be well armed with such a "formidable" esposa.

Bell,

The manslave is a keeper, indeed, a real jewel. His EDC's are a Swiss Army knife I gave him over 10 years ago, and a Leatherman Supertool 200 that I gave him for our 10th anniversary last October (we have been married for over 4 years, but together for over 10). That's when I received my Mouse, as well. No wonder it's the spoiled child.

Hi Kahz,
I saw your post on the 'footabll thread". wondered where you were. Probably studying. If you're interested in boats, maybe take a look at my son's site at:
