Do you like the Calypso (full size) or JD Smith?

Never had or held a calypso, have and carry a JD Smith. That should say it all.

The Calypso Sr does have the VG-10 Steel.

For pure engineered cutting ablitiy my vote it for .....
Calypso.

I own both large and both small examples. I've handled the
Smith. Without any reservation at all the Calypso wins.

The Calypso has very, very few peers in pure cutting power.
