Sad news - Bob Lum
Very unexpected.
I had the pleasure of meeting and getting aquainted with him at the 2005 & 2006 BLADE shows in Atlanta. Heck the guy didn't seem very old and didn't appear to be in bad health at the time. I'm wondering why he died at a "not so old age" .
I thought the guy was truly a gentlemen and a mastercraftsman at his trade.
Needless to say I am shocked to hear the news. To lose Bill Moran and him both in such a short time is truly devastating to the knife community. My most sincere condolences. My best wishes and sympathy to his surviving family. JD

Long Live the SPYDEREDGE Spyderco Hawkbills RULE!!
Word is, he contracted the "C" illness. I probably shouldn't pass on that information, because I never knew Mr. Lum, I just heard it from so and so, who heard it from so and so. But whatever.
My deepest condolences to Mr. Lum's family and friends. His passing has made waves in the blade community.

Condolences to his family and friends. He'll definitely be missed.
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

This is an email from Jean Lum. If you are unable to attend but would like to send a card, flowers or other remembrance, I think you should mail them to the church. I think this will help the family not be inundated at their home.

Great Knifemaker
Bob's work stood out from the crowd. With the least number of lines he created the most beauty. The flow of the design of his work is almost the definition of elegance. Bob's craftsmanship was always at the highest level. Bob always tolerated my questions and provided support. I'm proud to own a piece of his work.
On a lighter note I remember an OKCA show in Eugene where the announcer came over the PA and said "ANNOUNCEMENT...ANNOUNCEMENT...Bob Lum just cut himself." There was quite a roar of laughter.
Bob is, was, and will always be one of my knifemaking heroes..Take Care...Ed
