So I finally received my Yojimbo

Post by enyong112 »

Hi Guys,

So I finally received my blue Yojimbo after 3 months of waiting.. The knife is perfect!!! not as sharp as the Caly Jr ZDP out of the box, but overall better than any knife that I have!!! :) a whole lot better... first compression lock that i have, lock-up is super tight... I have trouble taking the lock off, i have to use my thumb, the tip of my pointer finger is stinging w/ pain.. is this alright? will it eventually loosen up? or do I have to do anything about it??

As much as I want to post pics, I don't have a digi-cam yet... sorry...

I remember mine taking a little time to loosen up.

You could try the old trick of rubbing a (graphite) pencil over the edge of the lock.

Finger or lock - one or the other is going to break in soon enough. :)

:spyder: Tight is good, it'll loosen up over time. :spyder:

Congrats on the new Yojimbo! I can sympathize with your finger soreness - I just got a Para-military (my first compression lock also) and my thumb and pointer finger are sore too! After an entire weekend of opening and closing it though, it seems to be loosening up just a bit. One-handed, I've found that pushing the lock release over with my pointer finger and then flipping the blade down with my thumb in the :spyder: hole is the easiest way for me.

Have fun breaking it in!

Finger tip pushups! They aren't just for basketball players.

:spyder: It just strikes me as cool that a Yojimbo's being carried in the Philippines, that's so full circle! :) :spyder:

I carried it to work today, and I plan to carry this as much as possible but I'm afraid it will lose it's beauty... and I don't have an extra one...

:spyder: Can't worry about tomorrow, if you find yourself needing a knife you need it today in your pocket, not at home on your shelf. As for your friends, show them a few meat cutting testswith the yojimbo and they'll convert pretty fast, that thing can slice and was purpose designed for the Filipino martial arts! Carry it with pride! :spyder:

I loosened mine ever so slightly with a Torx screwdriver. Only knife I've ever done this to. :spyder:

it's like a sports car,
a big waste if you don't speed with it :)

I say use it.

and then if gets worn or breaks, a great excuse to get a new one!
who knows what marvelous designs will be out by then!

Part of the beauty of it is getting scratches and all kind of 'character' marks on them. I actually think my knives are more beautiful once I've used them a bit. Use that sucker!

I couldn't agree more. I don't buy safe queens and all my knives get used. In fact, I try like heck to find ways to use them often in the first weeks to take the factory edge off them so I can put my own shaving sharp edge on them. That's when I really feel I've "bonded" with a knife - once I've taken the factory edge off through daily use and then put my own razor sharp edge on it.

Use your new Yojimbo often and in good health!
