What is your all-time favorite spydie?
What is your all-time favorite Spydie? Be specific down to the handle material, blade material, grind, edge type, color, anything you can think of that is specific. I'm trying to get a feel for the best of all worlds to put together the best Spydie that EVERYONE will like :)

I bet you will recieve a lot of "CalyIII" - answers now :-)
Personally, I can't answer this question :o . They are all great, some more than others, each one in certain aspects.
It's a variation of the often-asked questions "What is the BEST one", "if you had to choose ONE"..., and I always can't decide
Perhaps the "all-time favorite" still doesnt exist for me..... though the Stretch II could come very close... just have to hold a production one; until now, I only fiddled around with the prototype :D

Spyderco C78 Native III, PE. I love the blade grind and swedge-sexy lookin'. The blade is the right size for (for me) EDC. I like the VG-10 steel, holds and edge and easy to sharpen. The black FRN handle is thicker than the other models of Natives. The handle of the Native III is more rounded which makes it more comfortable for my large hands. I like the wire pocket clip, hardly noticeable when clipped in the pocket and easy on the pants too. Oh, yea, the good sized choil gives me several holding options as well and gives more control in some cutting situations. The weight of this knife is minimal and when in my pocket, I dont' even know it's there. My "overall" favorite knife of all the different ones that I have.
It's better to have knife and not need it than to need a knife and not have it.

:D LOL! The answer of a true Spyderholic. I'm getting the shakes trying to make a decision myself.Jay_Ev wrote:That's easy. I like the Lil' Calyanixilitaryodoarpyimbo.
All joking aside, my fave is the Caly 3 G-10 SE.
Take care.
Seriously, I think it would have to be the Caly 3, ZDP-189, PE, CF scales.
Raqudu :D

Don't think there ever will be such an animal Tom. Everyone has different needs, different tastes, and different priorities.LOOKABIRD wrote:I'm trying to get a feel for the best of all worlds to put together the best Spydie that EVERYONE will like :)

As for the question, there are a few I really like, but none on which I would not change (or have not already changed) something. In larger blades I love both the C83 Persian and the original Stretch, they are great knives. But the Persian would be even better with a full flat grind, no Boye dent, fine jimping on the ramp and choil, wood scales, and no clip.
The Stretch would be better if the jimping on the ramp matched that on the choil, the Boye dent were removed, and the handles replaced with sambar stag scales between dual stainless steel bolsters over skeletonized steel liners. And, once again, I'd ditch the clip.
In smaller knives the Kiwi is my top choice, have **** near 50 of them at last count. But again, improvments, in the form of a full flat grind and elimination of the jog in the blade, could be made.
Not to mention all three would be much improved by changing the steel to Odin's Eye Damasteel. But only as part of a total package with the other improvements, otherwise the added cost would not really be justifiable.
As you can see, I'm far from the "typical" Spyderco user. :D

My all time favorite would have to be my serrated Police model I had when i was in the Marines. I miss that knife. Lost it in the field. SIGH. Times have been really tough here lately. Wife passed away recently due to leukemia, bills are piling up, I've been a wreck. Can't afford much of anything but the basics lately.
