Ocean's 11 and Spydercos

#1

Post by Joyce Laituri »

Just saw the movie Ocean's Eleven and am 90% sure there are a couple Spyderco's in there. Anyone else see this? I was stuffing my face with popcorn and missed what model it was.

Joyce,

Thanks for pointing this out. I will keep my eyes peeled when I go see it this weekend, and I will be back with a full report of what I see.

Hmm. Saw it two days ago. Didn't see a single knife, let alone a spyderco.

Now I'm sure the placement wouldn't have been as obvious as Training Day with a full screen shot of a serrated Police. But I'm pretty sure I would have noticed one.

<shrug> I'd be interested to know if I missed one in someone's pocket. Let us all know Kahz.

The scene:

Clooney and Damon are preparing to rappel down an elevator shaft. Clooney opens a stainless steel briefcase full of gear. I think there are 2 Spydercos in the case (side by side) and once he and Damon descend the shaft, the rappel lines leave them 6-8 feet off the floor so they cut the lines (with a Spyderco???), dropping the rest of the way.
Good movie by the way!

Thanks a lot Joyce, there's no point seeing it now that you've given the story away .

LOL You'll have to ask Jeff about that, his is on it's way to him right now. I wasn't sure what to put on the Customs declaration so I just called it a coin purse .

Oh yeah. Now I remember, they did cut those repelling lines... unfortunatily the shot didn't really give a decent lookie a the knives. Maybe in the DVD we'll be able to pause there and see what they use. In any case, great movie, everyone go see it.

Joyce,

I confess *looks embarrased*... I have not seen "Ocean's 11" yet... but I did manage to go to the first "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" show at 12 a.m. until 3 a.m. last night. I am such a geek! LOL!

Being a die hard Tolkienite for more than half of my life (over 15 years, yikes! time flies!), I thought it was an excellent movie. Lots of blades. Oh, and Orcs... *shivers*

I will go see "Ocean's 11" this coming weekend and I will keep my eyes peeled. I just had to confess that the lure of Sauron won me over...

Kahz- Good to see another LOTR fan on here! Have you translated your signature into Elvish yet?

I'm going to see LOTR this weekend, and I'll probably squeeze Ocean's 11 in there too.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Sword & Shield,

No, I haven't translated it into Elvish yet, but I did write crypto-letters back and forth with a friend in Runic symbols when I was in high school.

And I also play the card game, Middle Earth, but it's hard to find others to play with. My husband and I play quite frequently. I always call Council first , Bwahahaha!!!! Ok, fine, he beat me once, but he managed to kill Cirdan with a dragon while traveling somewhere up north, yikes!

I hope you like the movie, there are a few "incidents" that are not in the book, but other than that, I think it was a great adaptation. I have reconciled myself with these differences. I own the older movie and the cartoons, and well, this new one is by far better. This was a huge tangent, but I am passionate about Tolkien and I love to meet other fans. Sorry folks...

Back to knives and Ocean's Eleven.

Ok everyone,

Here are the Spydies in Ocean's 11. It's a little pixelized but you can just make out their shape. They seem to have G-10 handles and the tell-tale hump for the Spyderhole.

Can anyone guess at what they are?

The one on the left looks like a Wegner to me. Will a prize be given to the winning guess? (Hint to Joyce)

Make that a Wegner without the clip attached. Btw, Lsaulog, amazing how you were able to produce that photo. Our FBI or CIA could use people with your skills.

My guess is a Rescue, but it's real hard to see! I'm probably wrong, I don't think the Rescue came in G-10. Good going on the image Lsaulog!!
