Hello SpyderFolk,



Well, I looked at my calendar today and noticed that we are already in December, LOL. My husband is really enjoying the multi-tool (a Leatherman Supertool 200) that I got him for our anniversary and, even though he does not care much for knives (other than the Swiss Army knife I gave him over 10 years ago), he has that "male" weakness for anything that comes out of a toolbox.



I want SpyderFolk opinions on the SpyderRench. Do you find it practical to use, is it easy to lose smaller parts, does the blade get in the way when using other parts, how bulky is it, etc., etc.? I am considering initiating "el hombre" into Spydies through a media he already likes, for X-mas (I know this tool is pretty hard to find) or at the latest for Valentine's Day 2002. I am not young enough to know everything...

It is more heavy duty than most other multi-tools. As an indication, I use my Leatherman Wave when I am travelling with my computer (mainly for the long nose pliers), but when I go cycling I take my SpyderRench.
It has less gadgety bits than some other tools, but those it does have are more robust, including the knife.

The only small bits are the hex bits which are standard and can be swapped out for any others you might use more.

I don't know, I think giving / recieving a Spydie is quite romantic <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

When it comes to multi-tools, I admit, I carry a Leatherman. I have two Super Tools, the Micra(Recently misplaced), Original Leatherman, and PST II.

I recently handled the SpyderRench and, although I loved the design, I don't see it as a replacement for my Leatherman(s). IMHO, it seems too "unlike" a Leatherman. This may sound strange, but the overall design of current multi-tools, like the Gerber, Leatherman, or similar, seems to work best. You know, the "folding pliers" design.

I've seen posts where the SpyderRench "fell apart" while using it. Not just one or two posts, but a number of them. I don't know, maybe it's just me but the SpyderRench seems too complicated. Then again, I find programming the VCR complicated! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Just my thoughts. I AM a hardcore Spydie fan, just not a SpyderRench fan...yet.

Hola, im with lsaulog y prefer much better my letherman psII or a gerber multitool that my wife ordered in the web page, the wrench is bulky and not a firm tool to use

I love my Spyderench!

It is rugged and ugly as sin, but it is beautiful!

There is no in-between, you'll either love or hate this tool.

The blade is a true Spyder knife and the tools are a compromise. The two pieces come apart, but that is to allow you to have two tools - a screwdriver and a wrench to hold the nut.

One way or the other, you pay for your tools!

Had one and sent it back! Not nearly as useful as my leatherman. parts didn't fit, file coating flaked off, small plier handles make that function useless! The only positive thing about it is the blade and warranty. Also note that they are no longer going to make them, so unless you want it for a collection, y advice is buy something else.
