I'v picked up a news piece some days ago from the news wire that a Chinese chef from Hong Kong was arrested in the the Chicago airport...

"A 76-year-old Hong Kong chef was arrested at O'Hare Airport in Chicago for trying to carry meat cleavers on board in his hand luggage on his flight home. Mok Sun-ming was charged with unlawful possession of weapons after the cleavers were found as he tried to board the American Airlines flight." (Nov 15)

I am sure the poor old man had forgotten about his trade-tools before he checked in. I was also told that the guy didn't actually speaks and understands English.

Anyone got any idea whether he was freed, jailed or what? I believe ignorance of the knife-ban could be a valid defence in court?

These days even nail clippers etc are banned from flights out of Hong Kong. ****.

Unfortunately, "ignorance of the law is no excuse for violating it" which is what any DA who want's to prosecute this poor guy would say. I don't know if he has been freed, but I would like to think that common sense would prevail in a case like this, but I have my doubts as he was initially arrested when he really should have just been made to put them in his checked luggage, or check his carry on with the clevers in them.
