I love Spydercos but that logo always reminded me of a tick. Kind of gives me the creeps. I think about all the times I have pulled ticks out of my dogs! :spyder:

I think the first thing I would consider worthy would be nailing that logo to the ground with some steely Spyder! Man, you should take some pictures ala "spyder with a Spyder" :D
...but no, no, you know it all, it's harmless little bunny...

SPYDIE: a symbol of high quality

#8

Post by JD Spydo »

To refer to SPYDIE as being a tick is borderlining on blashphemy  SPYDIE is symbolic of Quality, Integrity & Service.

I hope SPYDIE stays just the way he is for some time to come.

The only Spyderco Logo I liked better than SPYDIE is the cover of the "ALL GOD's CRITTERS" mural on the front of the 1997 Spyderco Dealer's catalog. I truly wish they would start using that one again.
Long Live the SPYDEREDGE Spyderco Hawkbills RULE!!

Entymology Lesson

:) ticks are in the spider family - they're all arachnids - eight legged insects. So yeah, it looks like a tick because it is a tick. The part of the tick that's sharp is its mouth, and there in the place where the tick's mouth ought to be is the "V" groove of (I think) the Triangle Sharpmaker......at least this is what I see in the spydie logo.... am I nuts?

what do others think?

My dream Spyderco: H1 folder with G-10, H1 or MICARTA scale. Time to lose the FRN only attitude with regard to H1

No just literal.

My guess is that Sal wanted a cute spider to represent Spyderco so puffy short legs did it. :spyder:

Hi Saltydog,

you are correct. the "spyder's" mouth is the triangle cross section.

Hi Zen. As you say, we needed a cute logo as many are "concerned" about spyders and spyders and knives was a lot to accept.

I never noticed that the spyders mouth was a reference to the sharpmaker!

I suppose you'd do that to your own pet, or other animals, too?
