Thanks for the good news, Sal!

Looks like an all-metal Spyderco is what the doctor ordered! :p

Mr. Shawn,

Maybe you can find a Mohel who snips with a Spydie! :spyder:

This would be a task for a PE, of course.

Asa's knife has arrived!

#25

Post by Mr. Shawn »

Due to the exceptionally speedy service of my fave knife company and the generosity of Sal and Joyce, I received the engraved SS Dragonfly for my son Asa last Thursday. The knife is the first gift :D he has received, and I so look forward to giving it to him when he's older. The first thing he will cut will probably be the card envelope addressed to him, which I am sure contains warm greetings from the Spyderco family.

I will post pics soon. Thank you for the best wishes, everyone!

Congratulations Mr Shawn. The birth of a child is one of the few things that exceeds getting a new spydie.. You got both ! What a nice gesture from Mr. Glessner.

I wish your son to grow up as a man with the same qualities as a Spydie:

Strong
Reliable
Honest
Social engaged
appreciated by everybody
and above all inspired and happy

Congrats on your two blessings, the most important being a soon to be father. Second one of the most kind stand up gestures by Mr. Spyderco! It is the genuine nature of the folks on this forum that have me coming back. Starting from the top........I have four girls myself and my wife says no to anymore, but yes to twin boys!!! :o :D ! I must make millions quickly before that thought comes to a reality. Take care all and God Bless! :spyder:

Pictures of Asa's knife and more

#33

Post by Mr. Shawn »

My wife and I invested well over an hour experimenting with different backgrounds and taking pictures of Asa's first knife, so please enjoy my first posted pics on this forum.

Here is Asa's knife on his crib blanket:

<a href="http://img85.imageshack.us/my.php?image=braidrg8.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/2771/braidrg8.th.jpg" border="0"/></a>

We wanted to see how well Asa's first Spydie would look in his street clothes, so what do you think? I have a feeling he will prefer front-pocket carry like me.

<a href="http://img81.imageshack.us/my.php?image=overallsfb8.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/5173/o ... fb8.th.jpg" border="0"/></a>

Here is one of Asa's cribmates, Munchies. Asa may have to wrestle him for the knife! :p

<a href="http://img86.imageshack.us/my.php?image=teddyjh2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/1241/teddyjh2.th.jpg" border="0"/></a>

My wife and I are big into Asian culture. Even though I really liked Asa's bedding when I first saw it online, I did not think I would get excited when I saw it in person. Therefore, I had to show off his crib set-up.

<a href="http://img83.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cribnh2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/7535/cribnh2.th.jpg" border="0"/></a>

And my wife proudly posed for this belly shot (notice the salute to St. Patrick's Day!). I think Asa knew the knife was his because he kicked several times during this shot.

My fellow Spydieholics, thank you again for your knife suggestions and warm wishes. I will keep you posted on Asa's progress (and my desire to cut his cord). Have fun!

Question about posting pictures

#34

Post by Mr. Shawn »

I used Image Shack to post my pictures, but what other picture-attaching tools allow you to add comments before and after the pictures? Does the attachment tool on this forum allow it? Thank you.

The overalls with the Dragonfly in the back pocket were just too cute!

So was the nursery! Pandas rawk! When my daughter plays Wonder Pets, she's saving a baby panda most of the time (sometimes a baby puma or jaguar, though).

Thanks for showing the pictures, Mr. Shawn! Bib overalls and a great knife are how to start the little ones off on the right track.

My son grew up with a housefull of knives, and his own collection by the time he was around 8 or 9 ( I kept it in my room). He's now 19 and has an E4, a ZDP Jess Horn, and an old lady bug he's had for 10 years amongst various other knives. He probably won't be buying any more for awhile now he's got a truck, school, and a girlfriend to pay for. :D Joe

Umbilical update!

#37

Post by Mr. Shawn »

I am amped! My wife and I just changed our doctor to one who is more aligned with our personal philosophies. I asked him about cutting Asa's umbilical cord with a Spyderco, and he was totally cool with it. In fact, there wouldn't be a need to sterilize the blade since the cord is not sterile anyway given the nature of childbirth.

I decided to use Asa's first gift (the engraved Dragonfly shown below) to cut his cord, and I will then give it to him when he's older. Yeah!!

Thank you for the kind words. Yes, Sal is quite a mensch.

Wec12, my father is from India, and my wife is Irish, and we share an intense interest in Asian culture, especially the spiritual aspects. We specifically bought crib bedding that matched our home's decor.
