I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.
hmmm, maybe not
Wow, that surely is an impressive, a 'stretch' Native I ??
I'm not sure I agree with it though, it has some similarities, but too many differences from the current Native models on offer to warrant a Native title (unless you call it a Native-L for long???)
I like the current proportions of the Native. I reckon if there were to be a larger Native, it should be a porportionate increase in size.... a Manix sized Native ? big handle, fat blade, big hole :O then my Native-ity scene will be complete :)

I quite like that. Looks far better to me that a reguar native.

I believe that picture was cropped out of a larger one containing a number of "concept models". IIRC, it was originally taken and posted by the late James Mattis perhaps about six years ago. The name, at the time was, IIRC, the "Native Chief". The concept surfaced again a couple years back, as the "Bison". While there was some favorable response on the forums, the dealer/distributor communiity was considerably less enthused by it. I look at it about the same way I look at the "Double Civilian", an interesting technical exercise and something I would not mind having in my display case, but not something that would ever find its way into my pocket.cobrajoe wrote:I agree, it dosen't seem quite right. Although, if you have a little bit of patience, you can get your hands on one of the G-10 flights that will be coming out. I believe that Mr. Blonde took some pictures of it, and it does look like a great blade.

Something like 5,5 inches.swingshot wrote:IIRC, it was in the 5 inch region.
The Native Chief prototype is as Deacon pointed out, an old one. Despite several campaigns by forumites over the years, it never made production. I can see the problem from a dealer/distributor POV: "Another large pointy G10 Spyderco, we got the Military, Chinook, Manix, how's this different?" ]http://www.spydercollector.nl/upload/am ... ghtg10.jpg[/IMG]

Too Skinny.
It's better to have knife and not need it than to need a knife and not have it.

I want a native chiev so bad that I'll ...
If Spyderco does not make one, I'm going to make one myself. :D
That Byrd is NOT a substitute for a full size native.
There is a large and a small version of just about every mainstream design Spyderco has produced, other than the Native. There really is no excuse for never ever (even LE) making a full size Native.
The race is on, who will make it first, me or Spyderco

Reminds me of the Renegade (2nd from left, top row)
There isn’t any symbolism. The sea is the sea. The old man is an old man. The boy is a boy and the fish is a fish. The shark are all sharks no better and no worse. All the symbolism that people say is ****.

I'd buy it,4.5''- 5'' blade would be nice on anything, but i thing that may be the best platform to offer it on.
To me it looks better than the std. native
The bottom center knife in the last pic woulden't be too bad either.

I'm not sure if 5"+ folders are reasonable.
I mean you can't have them in pocket (why pocket clip then?) and usually you have to have a some kind of sheath for them. In that case it really doesn't matter if you are carrying sheath with closed folder like that or fixed blade with 4" or even 6" long blade.
However had it be around 4" and full flat grind (and not bolt type clip) then I'd buy it for sure :)
