Hate to break the bad news to you Jordan, but "Switchblade" is defined separately in Texas.

§ 46.01. DEFINITIONS. In this chapter:
...
(6) "Illegal knife" means a:
(A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;
(B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;
(C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk,stilletto, and poniard;
(D) bowie knife;
(E) sword; or
(F) spear.
...
(11) "Switchblade knife" means any knife that has a
blade that folds, closes, or retracts into the handle or sheath, and
that:
(A) opens automatically by pressure applied to a
button or other device located on the handle; or
(B) opens or releases a blade from the handle or
sheath by the force of gravity or by the application of centrifugal
force.

Also from the Texas Penal Code:

§ 46.05. PROHIBITED WEAPONS.

(a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly possesses, manufactures, transports, repairs, or sells:
(1) an explosive weapon;
(2) a machine gun;
(3) a short-barrel firearm;
(4) a firearm silencer;
(5) a switchblade knife; :mad:
(6) knuckles;
(7) armor-piercing ammunition;
(8) a chemical dispensing device; or
(9) a zip gun.
(b) It is a defense to prosecution under this section that the actor's conduct was incidental to the performance of official duty by the armed forces or national guard, a governmental law enforcement agency, or a correctional facility.
...
(d) It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under this section that the actor's conduct:
(1) was incidental to dealing with a switchblade knife, springblade knife, or short-barrel firearm solely as an antique or curio;

There are some other affirmative defenses, see HERE for the whole statute.

Zac,
I want to point out that there are several G10 auto models out there. Most of them made by Robbie Dalton. The ergonomics and designs of Daltons are tremendous. There are many Daltons with hollow grinds. In fact, most are hollow ground. Many models are also partly serrated. Finally Dalton is considered one of the top Autos, period. Here's a link to a gallery of models produced by Dalton. If you have not seen this before I think as a knife lover you will be impressed. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see an auto Spydie. I just want to point out some things that you may not be aware of.
Thanks!

Jordan please see post #21, thanks. autos are very illegal in TX, it is the same as carrying an AK-47 in the eyes of the law here. :(

One way around the TX law is that if you can prove the auto is part of a curio then you can own it but not carry or transport it. to much trouble for me.

One of the largest Microtech dealers around. Supposedly, they have stopped production on all double action automatics about two months ago, and they are understaffed by about 235-245 people, as according to what was in an agreement with Pennsylvania, they are supposed to have 250 people (IIRC) working by a set year in order to get a business break.

****! That's too bad. I love their stuff (vicariously, of course, as I am a Canadian and would never own something proscribed by the authorities.)

Thanks.

When they actually do something, their quality is AMAZING. Tony Marfione is one of the most talented individuals in cutlery ever...he is also a very unkind person to say the least.

I'm not sticking up for Mr Marfione, but the 'rumor' about MT closing has been circulating for quite some time now without any actual confirmation that it's closing down.

As for the fact they haven't made any D/A OTFs in several months, that's not unusual. MT don't make every single model at all times. Not even Benchmade make every model at the same time.
