Low Profile ClipIt Folder

#1

Post by Gatekeeper »

I'm looking for a folder with a pocket clip that sits low enough as to only show the clip itself. The clip must be black to be inconspicuous in plain view. Can anyone provide me with suggestions?

One that I have is the JD Smith. If you are talking non-spyderco than there is the gerber applegate covert.

The lowest riding Spyderco I know is the Standard. It's a normal clip (black), but the top of the clip is touching the top of the scale.
I carry it in the office, where ANY knife would be liable to freek people. Against my black trousers it's not noticable at all.

The Calypso C54 and the Centofante C50 both sit very low in the pocket especially for fullsize folders and their smaller versions C52 and C25 are deep riders also. And the Vesuvius and the Viele also ride low. A black clip is usually available from Spyderco to refit a shiney one.

Butt the lowest rider that I can think of is the Meerkat, butt then its clip is not black tho its not typical of knives so would not draw too much notice.

Centofante is very low. Any lower and it would be an EDI clip.

Speaking of clips, any ideas on how to touch up the black coating on clips? Specifically the Police.

I have had people think my old model endura was a beeper I guess because of the FRN clip.

I think you would really want to do this in a vice or something but here is the general idea: Grab the clip and bend it forward, 180 degrees from the direction it comes from the factory. Then select a place 1/2 inch from the scales and bend it back 180 degrees. Now the knife will ride so low in your pocket no one will see handle. I wouln't do this with the clip on the knife and I would get Spyderco to send me a new clip, before I tried it. Maybe you could talk someone at Spyderco into sending you a blank clip to experiment, one that hasn't been bent yet.

Just a thought, good luck.

Check out the Meerkat. The knife rides pretty low and the clip is unique and inconspicuous.

Knife Knut,
I've used a black "Sharpie" for touch ups. I also have a can of flat black model paint for severe touch ups. One thing I want to try, but never bought is the touch up pens you can buy for guns. They have a gloss black and a flat black. There made to fill in nick's on gun metal. Hope this helps.

We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...
