Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2007 Report
This years’ meet was –in a nutshell- bigger than ever. At least, that’s how it seemed to me. I saw a lot of new faces and the prototypes and concept models seem to increase in number every year. I barely had enough memory with me to shoot everything. Note to self: don’t assume that 1GB will be enough! I had an amazing time, meeting old friends again and shooting every prototype I could get my hands on.

On to the knives! The knives were shot at the end of the show, so you might see some smudges and fingerprints on some of the models. I think I’ll bring some windex and wiping cloths next time ;-)
First up are some familiars.
The Delica 4 Waved Trainer, I really liked seeing this one. Apparently the Law enforcement & training community asked for this model often enough to make it to production.
Naturally, the Waved Endura 4 Trainer was not forgotten.

The Etched Cricket, as well as the other etched models, were quite fetching. The etching does improve the grip quite a bit. It does take away from the smooth look of plain SS, but I’m sure I’ll add one of these to my collection.
The Etched Dragonfly, I kind of wished they included a set of extra clipscrew holes on the other side, so a lefty could enjoy it more. I think a set of extra holes wouldn't look too distracting among the etching.
The Etched Spin. Before this knife was too small for me to open fluently, with the etched surface I can get a much better grip on it for opening.

The Kopas were on display as well. The Black Quince Kopa started to grow on me, the black hides some nice shades of a few lighter colors.
The Jigged Bone Kopa had a nice 3D handle effect, should make a nice EDC for those who love jigged bone.
The Abalone Kopa, I checked the inlay for gaps or something between the inlays…no chance…smooth as steel.

On to the more anticipated stuff! :D
The Caly III with CF handle and ZDP 189 steel blade. A cool knife for sure, though I’m partial to the glossy finish on CF. The finish is now more dull, sort of a stonewash finish for CF handles. A smooth surface with a dull color. It’s intended to be a user, so this finish helps in that respect.

The Stretch II, again with CF handles and ZDP 189 blade. I liked this one better than the ZDP Caly III. It’s quite a different knife in feel, compared to the original Stretch. This one’s alittle thicker and the texture is smooth and tactile at the same time. The fit and finish was excellent, the lock was nice and tight. I liked this one a lot.

I’ll leave off for now with…..JD are you getting this? The Superhawk! It lives! CF cales (like on the CF Military) and compression lock, and a heck of a big hawkbill blade! It seemed even bigger than the Spyderhawk.
The handle on the Superhawk was really great, it fit my hand and it was very smooth too. In this respect it reminded me of the Persian.
A big thank you to Sal, Gail, Eric, Ed and Jurphaas for making it all happen again. This was the best one yet! I got more pics and stories, but they both need sorting out.

Your pictures make it easier for me to sleep well this night, Wouter! :D
The Stretch 2 is my favorite and needless to say - I want them all :p

Thanks for the photos Wouter. Sounds like you folks had a great time. Looking forward to seeing the D'fly in person. Am betting STR can solve the incorrect clip placement issue. :D Looking forward to the Waved Rescue too.
