Hello!! from New Member and Spydercos by Montejano

Hello!!

I´m a new Forum member, from Argentina, and this is my first post.
May be some of you already have seen my messages and pictures at the Bladeforum´s Spyderco section.

I´d like to share some of my knives with you, and will begin with these knives which were embelished by a great Spanish artist.

These are my Endura and Delica, which I sent to my dear friend, Mr. Antonio Montejano, the foremost “aqua forte” engraver of Spain.

Image

Mr. Montejano lives in Albacete, Spain, the city famous for their "navajas", and he keeps alive the art of "aqua forte" engraving, which he learned from his father, a skilled and well known engraver jimself.
Through much investigation and research, and lots of works, Montejano has reached levels never dreamed for the art of aqua forte, which, as you know, is an ancient art, developed hundred and hundred of years ago for decorating arms.

My two Spydercos, are decorated in a traditional and delicate style of decoration, which blends beautifully in this knives in spite of their modern present day look. That was a real challenge for this great artist: to combine the High Tech style of these great knives, with such a lovely Old World artistical design.

I hope you will enjoy these knives, and will be able to take an insight of the work of this gifted artist.
Very cordially,

Finally: This is a Dragonfly also embelished by Montejano, which he keeps in his own colection.
All pictures furnished by Mr. Antonio Montejano.

I don´t know if policies of this forum allow for posting the web site of Mr. Montejano.
Will someone advice please? I highly commend to visit the page of this great artisan, who also is an acomplished knifemaker himself, devoted to high end art knives.

Hope all of you enjoy these pictures.
Thank You, and best cordial regards, Abel

Said it over there, and I'll say it here again, those are some lovely pieces of work!

Welcome to the Spyderco Forums!

I don't think there's any problem with linking the website, but just to be sure, could someone else confirm?

Welcome to the forums, Abel. I'm sure you've heard this before but those are absolutely gorgeous knives. Totally awesome workmanship.

That, and you've just sold me on the serrated Dragonfly.

Thank you so much for sharing.

Beautiful knives! Mr. Montejano has some serious talent. Welcome to the forum. I am pretty new myself and do not know all of the proper etiquette, but I have seen several posts with links attached to them.

Those are some beautiful knives. I wonder, has he thought of the lava for a possible canvas for his work? It has a nice wide SS handle and a shape that just flows, I think it could work great with his engraving, but then again, I'm not the expert.

Thanks for sharing, and welcome!

Peter1960:
Thank you again for your kind welcome to this Forum too!

Cobrajoe:
Nice idea! Yes, Lava could make a wonderful canvas indeed. Big knives offer larger surfaces, but smaller ones get a charming effect, and are more comfortable for EDC

J Smith:
Thank you for your interest. I don´t know, as this was a great present by Mr. Montejano, as we are good firends.
Please visit his web page and contact him. He is a very nice person indeed!
Note that it is not a massive serial work, made by some automatic machine, but a one a time, completely hand made, exclusive design and engraving for each piece.
A very demanding and time consuming highly skilled work.

Simple Man:
Yes the process involves acids, different concentrations, and exposition time, depending in the effect the artist wants to achieve, or the type of steel.
Different acids respond in different ways. You may rarely see a blade engraved with burins or acid!! Montejano does it!! I´ll ask him to show the precess himself.
