Like for example you were cutting a bok open in the store you work for a mother with her 4 year old son comes in and she scolds you for having the knife out....

Have you ever felt bad for carrying a knife?

I haven't because I rarely take it out in public.

Well... I don't have my knife yet, but just yesterday my dad asked me about me buying a knife and thinks it's "very dangerous," because he thinks a guy at 7-11 or something will take it and use it against me.

So, I'm not going to bring it to school, and will only take it out around people I trust... so I don't really see a problem, but I'm a little worried now.

btw- I wear long shirts/sweaters so it will be completely invisible, which is good, but then it is concealed, and that makes it illegal. AG!

If anyone scolded me for useing a knife or any other tool when it needed to be I guess I would loose my job because I would tell them where to go.

I have never felt bad and never will feel bad because I have a knife on me. Actually, I currently carry 3-5 plus a Leatherman depending on the job I'm doing and I don't even feel bad about that.

I don't deal well with people scolding me for having a knife. I guess it shouldn't, but most of the time that I have a knife out in public it is because I'm doing something for someone who asked me to use my knife, or I'm substituting it for a dull one that was provided for me(as in a restaraunt). If I ever encounter someone asking me to cut something, then *****ing because a kid or someone came into the room, I would probably make sure I retied whatever I cut as tightly as possible and then I would just leave.

No... but I don't flaunt it. I'm very careful about who I "expose" myself to. Hehehe!<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Never have, never will.

I've carried a knife since I was probably 12. I carried a knife to work. I carried a knife to school. I still carry at least one, often two knives. (Back in the day when it wasn't illeagal to carry a knife to school....you just couldn't carry an ILLEAGAL knife)

To me, the knife is the most useful of any tool ever created. I use mine just about every day.

I've never been given a hassel about it, though. Of course, here in the panhandle, about everybody carries knives and a good many carry concealed pistols...if not on them, in their vehicle.

Never felt bad even though I am a teacher.
My coworker used to get upset at the Police model I always carried and often would ask "Why do you carry that thing?!"
My answer was, of course "sometimes you need a knife and a spoon won't do."
After Jan. 17, 1995 in Kobe, where we live, and we needed a knife that day many, many, many times, and I was the only bloke with one, she stopped nagging and now carries a Spyderco everywhere she goes as well.
Too bad it took a massive earthquake to convince her, but she's a convert for life!

silver_pilate,

"Never have, Never will." I totally agree with you.

Plain and simple, a knife is a tool. Sure, occasionally, you'll get a strange look or two, but I'll never be without mine.

I have carried and used my Delica FRN for years and currently carry my SS Police model at all times. My wife would nag me about carrying it "everywhere", even while at home.

Funny though, she's always asking to borrow my knife whenever the need arises, which was almost daily.

Funnier still, I thought that I misplaced my Delica the other day, and coincidentally, I discovered my wife now carries it in her purse! Now I know why she no longer hassles me about carrying my spydie everywhere!! Now....if I could only find my Leatherman Micra...hmmmm.

Oh well, I won an auction on eBay for an Endura. (JA KnifeSales) I can't wait 'til it gets here!

Hope for the best. Be prepared for the worst. You'll never be disappointed.

I have never felt "bad" for carrying a knife.
But I'll admit there have been times when I sat by and watched some nitwit tear at something with car keys or a pen or something to open it. Scoffing and them for not carrying a knife, and knowing full well that they'd give me the old "what are you, a Boy Scout?" or "Jeez, who you planning to stab?" line, I just kept the knife in my pocket and watched 'em stuggle. I don't understand that.

No.There have been times in the past when I felt bad for NOT having one;now I keep a backup handy.A hearty second to those who've advocated discretion(not'flashing')& educating those who see & fret on the use of a knife.Well Said!

This begs the question, "Why should I?" No, I've never felt "guilty" or "bad" for carrying a "tool". I've been questioned on occasion by proverbial sheeple, I just give 'em the old vacuous stare and ask, "What? Are you mental? Why are you projecting your unfounded, irrational fears on me? Go away!"

I never feel bad. I only feel bad if I don't have a knife on me.

Several years ago a woman in my class was struggling to open a plastic package with her teeth. I offered to let her use the small Case pocketknife I had, and she snobbily spurned it. "No, I will NOT use your...KNIFE." she said it with great disdain, as if I'd said something lewd to her. So I let her carry on in her more dignified method, biting the package and shaking her head like a puppy tearing at a shoe. I think she finally gave up and tried to use a ball point pen to open it.

Now I never offer to help someone like that because I know what the answer will be. Only if I know the person well, and they know I carry, and they specifically ask for a knife, I'll cut it for them.

I've never felt bad for carrying a knife. Although, sometimes I feel bad if I overcarry for the day. Do I really need to carry a Commander, mini-CQC7B, Ladybug, and Dragonfly?

Yeah because people think it is weird for a girl to carry knives but sometimes I just feel safer to have it on me. :-)

Jenn, so you carry a knife around for self defense? Aren't you scared that if you ever needed to use it some guy could just push you and take the knife?

I've had a lot of girlfriends tell me I'm crazy for carrying a knife. **** I've had a lot of girls just tell me I'm crazy! But seriously, I was raised around guns and knifes, my dad's a retired deputy sherrif don't get that false security from the knife if you ever pull it out to defend yourself you better know how to use it. Do you know how many people get killed with knives and guns that belong to them? I'm a mechanic by trade (bought most of my Spydies, 7 to be exact off my Snap On tool dealer) and I use it all the time. I even have a dress knife, Stainless Steel Police serrated edge. Most of all the women have changed the way they feel about knives. I always have a knife where ever I go.
