Border Patrol Agent Delica

Post by edrose »

Found and scored that! ;)
Since it's with AUS-6 blade and without Boye dent, I'd say it's made before 2000/2001. Was it a factory made laser engraving? If you have any further information about that model, it would be welcome! :)
Thanks,
Ed

Nice catch - my congrats! :)

Concerning your question I assume that it's a "government production for boarder patrol" from Spyderco. Other specialists will correct me.

Peter1960: I'm a U.S. Border Patrol Agent in South Texas. I also own a Delica w/the USBP DOJ Legacy badge. This badge is no longer in use since we are now a part of the Department of Homeland Security/ Customs and Border Protection. This knife is a real collectors item. There is also a SS Endura and SS Native with the exact same laser engraving. I don't know if they were part of a governmet contract with Spyderco. These knives were being sold by our Welfare and Recreation Department to Agents. Each station has their own W/R Dept. and the funds are used for softball tournaments, bowling tournaments, shooting contests, retirement plaques etc. Once again, nice find. I would hold on to this one.

@ Senorx: I thank you for this explanation! Now i know a bit more about U.S. Border Patrol (Austria and USA aren't neighbors and I never stayed in US so far, therefore my lack of knowledge). I thought the knives are regular equipment of agents.

Nice thing about it is the mint condition, I usually see them with pocket wear.

Ed, I believe that at least some of the US Government agency marked Spydercos were sold through John F Jensen. You might want to drop him an email and ask if the Border Patrol knives were among them.

Thank you all!

Zenheretic, in fact, although the blade is mint, there is indeed pocket wear on the handle, as it can be seen on the badge closeout. (BTW, vigilance here, the right angle can often do miracles to spirit light scratches away... )

bigcat, great site, I already know that there ara two different badges (USBP and CBP USBP), mine is the first.

OFF
BTW, I'm also happy to get this Delica because I already have an older Al Mar Border Patrol (but it's the Immigration BP badge, wich must be something different. )

The Deacon is correct, we distribute the USBP logoed knives.

The one that edrose has pictured is one of our knives.

John: Just curious, but how do you know this is one of "our" knives?
