Anyone interrested in a new run of Waved Matriarchs

#1

Post by Jim Malone »

I saw a post about the matriarch on BF and think it would be a great knife to make a sprint run in.
Matriarch 4 with a wave and a wireclip!
Who would like the resurection of the Matriarch?

:)

Jim, am a bit unclear on what you're asking for. When you say Matriarch 4 do you mean built using the Endura 4 handle? With either handle, I think a wire clip miight be less feasible, as it would require additional tooling. I would rate a waved version of the original one, using the original barrel bolt style clip, as the most feasible since the tooling probably still exists for the blade and lockbar, and the handle mold is still being used for the Pacific.

Sounds good, with either handle.

I vote for a blade slightly scaled down to 3", so more of us can legally carry it.

Definately like to see a sprint on the Matriarch. Been trying to get my hands on one for quite awhile now. However, I prefer the "original" form or an upgraded original form. No wave.

I voted original, but that's only because I'm not a fan of the wave. I'm all for improvements like nested liners, updated handle, etc.

Perhaps even with a removable wave? Ala the P'Kal.

i dunno...
the matriarch I rarely carry (i don't have a Civilian) coz if i had a choice b/w carrying a specialized SD only knife vs. one with a utilitarian blade config....and coz i only like to carry one knife at once....So for example i'd much rather carry my Tasman Salt, Yojimbo or even Dodo....for SD and general use....

Why argue? Make it a removable wave like on the P'kal :D

I'd also agree with the sub 3" blade, even for SD, I'd rather carry a blade that's legal. Although, I probably would use it for some utility, no matter what the warning says (I love reverse S blades :D ).

wasn't it tip down carry? so they would have to move the clip position.

and they haven't done that on the civilian in 10, maybe 12 years, even with the 4 way clips on several other knives. i think they are content with it's configuration, and wouldn't spend money redesigning a sprint run. i don't think they changed anything signifigant for the Lum Chinese release. of course, who knows until we get them

edited for spelling

That's a bit tough to say. Matriarch is an awesome knife, and essentially an affordable version of the Civilian (well, maybe in its production days ;) ) So far as putting a wave on it, it's tough to say how well the mechanics of speed draw would work out. Maybe if this were a small sprint run of the original with a wave ground in it would be feasible to do, but retooling for new scales and liners?... that's a tough one to justify. The Civilian seems to be holding down the fort pretty well in that department, and the P'Kal will be along soon to fill the waved-hawkbill position. I'll obstain from the poll on this one...

a zip tie would work just as well...

i'd be interested in a recurved, SD-oriented blade similar to the matriarch with a 3" blade (for legal carry) married to the D4 platform.

BTTT

I ended up getting and selling a Matriarch because the situation I required it for wrapped up without incident, but I'd love to see a sprint run of these, they'd sell out fast.

How many people need to be interested to make this happen?

Sorry, but I'm not even interested in a Matriarch, let alone a waved one. I'm pretty sure the general public feels the same.

I'm just not real big on the wave feature.

A Matriarch in any form, I would buy in a heartbeat...

I missed them first time around.

I'm luke-warm on a waved Matriarch. I suppose I'd buy one for my collection were it made, but not to carry.

I'd love to get a Matriach, but not a waved one. Or create a utility Reverse-S that has a traditional handle (Delica/Endura type handle).
