FRN question

#1

Post by mundele »

This may be a stupid question, but what color is FRN before the pigment is added? I was thinking it would be really awesome to have a Calypso Jr. Lightweight with a translucent FRN handle. The handles could maybe be tinted with colors, or left clear, kind of like the iMac look. I suppose that the 'F' in FRN (the fiber) might not allow it to be very translucent though. Is this possible?

Hi Munele. Translucent is possible, but it doesn't look very good.

Oh well... Another dream shattered....

How about different handle colors for Calypso Jr. Lightweights?

The Calypso jr lite weight is not, at this time, selling well enough to try different colors. It is a sophisticated design that appeals more to the aficianado, than the normal blade user. I'm sure it will grow, but it will take time.

I guess that makes me an aficianado... <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> I really like the design of that knife. I particularly like the circular cutaway where the top edge of the blade meets with the handle when open. I like how when the knife is closed, that cutaway "matches up" with the finger groove in the handle. Really neat...

How long did it take for the delica/endura to become popular among "normal blade users"? I havent seen any Calypso Jr. Lightweights at stores where those "Normal Blade Users" shop (sporting goods stores, etc)

A lot of dealers don't like to carry more than one model of a given size. The Delica, Calypso jr and Native are all about the same size, although quite different. Few dealers will carry more than one and the Delica is the most popular.

The Delica became popular in several years but there was no competition back then. now there are many copies as well as other one hand open lite weights.
