Thanks, Sal and all, for the Meerkat!

Maybe I'm alone here, but I just got my Meerkat the other day and I have to say, as far as Spyderco's smaller knives, this is now my favorite.

I've been a die-hard Dragonfly carrier for a long time, and never really liked the "navigator" based knives, but with the Phantom lock and the heft of the little Meerkat, I'm finally a convert.

That handle sculpting is great (the ergonomics for grip and the indentation for the lock) and the action is smooth.

Thanks to Sal and all for a great little knife- I think this one will be a winner with such a great price point for a hearty little knife.

Now, if only it came in colors and with the reversed s-curve blade... (Always wanting what's not available).

PS: I almost forgot to mention one of my favorite features- the wire clip and its very low profile (when protruding from a pocket). You can hardly tell there's anything there at all! Great!

I second your opinion michael g73 ; I bought one today and I think it is great.

I already was a Navigator (2 G10's) and a Mouse fan, but the phantom lock is something special .

Critical remark :
. when opened the blade is not flush with the back of the handle

What is great :
. the clip (I love deep pocket clips)
. the handle (navigator style)
. the lock (cool !) ; how is its strength compared to a lockback Navigator ?
. 440C steel

What I'd love :
. the back of the blade chamfered, like my CF dragonfly
. a bit thicker blade
. yellow handle : with the sculpting it would look like emmentaler cheese (certainly non treathening)

I thought there were going to be some different colored handles on the Meerkat next year. Along with the reverse curved blade. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like it was metioned on Bladeforums.

Well, now I've had a few days of USE of my Meerkat, and its definitely my favorite small/friendly knife- Spyderco or otheriwise. (Of course, I only have ONE knife that's not a Spyderco, and it's NOT a small knife by any means).

Anyway, I read on the BladeForums that colors and reverse s-curved Meerkats are coming next year (I believe Sal posted that notice). There was also mention of a "World" knife and a "slipjoint" being based on the same Navigator/Meerkat designs...

Does anyone know what colors are planned for the Meerkat, and what in the world the "World" knife and "slipjoint" are? (You see, I'm afraid I might have more knives to buy, and make gifts of more of my older ones).

Thanks!

I received my Meerkat today and fell in love with it immediately. Wonderful piece. No complaints at all, except I've been ordered to buy another or loose the one I have. The wife has spoken.
