What the heck is wrong with you people?!?!?

For most of my adult life, I have carried at least one knife all of the time. First as a military officer, then as a law enforcement officer. As a tactical instructor, I believe strongly in using only the best tools available, and I have always applied that to knives as well as firearms. I made certain that the knives I carried were of high quality. But it was not until I recently got bitten by the Spyderco bug that I actually considered collecting knives! I was made aware of some very nice things that Spyderco had done for the law enforcement and rescue community and I started taking a look at the one knife that I had actually owned consistently during my career...a Spyderco Delica. It was actually the 2nd Spyderco I ever purchased...the first had the emblem of our agency on it, but I lost it during an operation. I purchased the Delica during the early 90's to replace it. It is the only knife I have owned for that long. All others have come and gone. So, I started learning a little bit more about Spyderco...and a little bit more...and a little bit more....and then....I stumbled onto....you people!! Now I seem to have this unending desire to obtain Spyderco knives. I think I need help! Imagine, something so...so...useful...and yet, also, so fun and collectible. It is nuts, I tell you, nuts! I blame you people. All of you. A pox on you.

My Dear Friend,

Welcome to your new addiction.

And yes, we are unrepentant sinners, guilty as charged. :D

Your story sounds just like mine! LOL! I've owned 2 or 3 Spydercos over the last 10 years.

But here lately I find myself seeing your adds for :spyder: all over the place like GT. We are looking for Spydeys in some of the same places.

I've bought 4 of the darned things in the last week.

I need help also! :spyder: Sick! I tell you! Sick! :spyder:

It starts as an interest
it becomes a hobby
it morphs into a passion
and ends in an all consuming disease that only ends in death.

lol

I'm a new addict myself. welcome home.

TheGreatGonzo, I was feeling pretty much the same way just a bit over a year ago now. I don't have near as many Spyderco's as many here, but I have more than I really need. AND, there is not one that I would give up. They are all the knives I have ever owned!!
Yes indeed, welcome to the addiction :D .
O, by the way, along the way, I have met some really great people here!!!!

Gonzo, I'm right with you. I really don't understand it at all myself. A year ago I had no knives, now I have five spydercos, couple benchmades, a buck and a kershaw. The worst part is Spyderco keep coming out with amazing knives (must get Delica ZDP, then Must get Endura Wave, Must get Caly 3, Must get Bob Lum ZDP, really want lava, should get paramilitary, had to get salt etc...) Sal, WHEN WILL IT STOP!!!

Just kidding, keep em' coming :D

I'm soooo glad to read these posts. I thought it was only me...I was beginning to get worried, looking up medical definitions of "obsession," and thinking about getting professional help. After reading this thread, I guess now I only have to worry about bankruptcy...

Welcome... As a fellow LEO, I too was content (untill recently) to own just one or two Spydies... (a Renegade and Native). However, in the last few weeks I've added a Manix, Blackhawk, D'Allara DP, Military, 2 Wayne Goddards (already sold), a Caly Jr (just arrived today), and a Ronin (on the way). I'm sure I'm forgetting one.. but you get the picture... I'm selling things on ebay, so I can build up my paypal (knife-buying) balance. ...Don't want all the purchases on my CC or Checking account. My wife just doesn't understand knives (or spending money for that matter). Devious, I know.... :p

Trihonda, I'm getting ready to do the same thing! Spending it faster than I'm putting it in! But my wife knows about my addiction and supports me!

It may be something in our family trees. I have always carried a knife. It started out with Case knives years ago. Then Spyderco, Benchmade and so on. There is no cure except dying I guess. Enjoy the madness.

Welcome to the forum. The collector's disease is harmless except to your wallet.

I have owned a couple Spyderco's for-ever. Always Delicas/Enduras becuse that was all I'd ever seen here in Podunk, NC. Exposure to an expanding internet and this and other forums has expanded my horizons. Now I've got to try out many of them.

Note to Sal: get more knives out where people can see and handle them. They'll sell themselves.
