Question about steel selection process?

#1

Post by The Mastiff »

Sal, some time back you mentioned in a thread you were testing a knife you made of 20CV. Is there any way you can tell me what knocked it out of contention for spyderco uses.

I know you have a very decent, and balanced philosophy of "All good, just different". I'm not asking for any derogatory comments about this or any other steel. Your place in the industry precludes you from being, We'll say, undiplomatic.

Still, you probably are in the running for having tested as many steels as anyone on earth for production folder use. I'd kind of like to get an idea how your selection process works. It's obviously not merely cost, nor always following the crowd.

Thanks for the time.

If any others here have a knife made out of this steel I'd like to hear about it.

How about the Rockstead knives using ZXR7 steel? Thanks, Joe
