Need help to find a Gentleman's Folder
Need help to find a Gentleman's Folder
What does everyone look for in a gentleman’s folder? Looks, size, price? What do you carry when going to church, or out for a nice night? Anyone use their EDC for dressing up too?
The reason I want to ask is because I am going to my sister in laws wedding in April of 2007 and I really don’t have a knife for the tux. I am getting a Lava Forum Knife from hornshwangler (thanks for selling me one!), would this be alright? Or should I go for the momma of dress knives in a Kopa?
Please let me know!

I like the Jess Horn for this purpose. I have a black Micarta Jess Horn which is a great gentleman's knife, but the new burgundy FRN Jess Horn Lightweight with the ZDP-189 blade would work very well for this also.

Poliwog
I usualy go to my Poliwog. I removed the clip and keep it in my front pocket. It is very thin and it does not have a profile that looks like a knife. It dissapears almost as comletely as a Cricket. Yet the blade is very servicable and the handle fills the hand like a larger knife. As an added bonus, if I find a fellow knife knut, I have something interesting to show.

Believe me!

I had not even considered these two. Very good ideas. :)SeanH wrote: Poliwog

Blast From the Past...
You may also want to consider a retired model--the Baby Goddard. To me, it's still one of the best little dress-up "pocket" knives ever. It has no clip and is thin and smooth in my pocket. You see them sometimes on E-bay and it's listed on that great all-time Spyderco chart with pix that was attached recently in a Forum post. Mine has a CE with dark gray-green micarta scales, and even at its small size it fits well in my hand. I thought I lost it once and freaked...

If the wedding is in a knife friendly place, go for the full size Persian. And get it sooner, because like formal shoes, you want to break it in before the big night
If it is a non knife friendly place, even the mother-in-law will like those stone or wood inlaid Kiwi.
Take care and let us know your choice,
Simon
