Which Moran blade style?

#1

Post by Jeff/1911 »

I have pretty much decided to buy a Moran fixed blade, and possibly a Wegner or Chinook as well.

Anyway, regarding the Moran which do you all recommend as the best blade style for general field dressing, skinning of big game? The two choices are: FB01 (upswept blade) or the FB02 (drop point) style. I would think that the drop point might be the best choice for the same reasons I’ve heard the Wegner is better than the Chinook regarding the “unzipping” of an animals underside. Your thoughts?

For general use I'd personally buy the 01. For skinning where you need to get in close without punching holes, get the 02 with the better edge/spine curve.

We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

Personally speaking, drop point. This one's just right for skinning, caping and dressing game.... <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> The FB02 is my companion in the wilderness..
