In my spare time I build 3D computer models. So I thought what better knife to model than (IMHO) Spyderco’s most beautiful knife.



I was hoping to put the large versions (1280x1024) up on my web site for anyone interested to download, they show a lot more detail, but my hosts web server is down. If anyone has any free web space give me a call and I’ll mail them over, (they’re about 170k each).

Another one for your viewing pleasure.
I've taken some liberties with the lock, couldn't quite see it all, and the spring is missing.

My lack of mechanical ability knows no bounds, so it isn't surprising to me that I'm puzzled by a couple things.

In the second picture, where the blade is partially open, the lockbar/spacer, whatever it is, is pushed out from the line of the scales/liners, just like a slip joint. Is this part of the deal with the compression locks?

Also, you said the spring isn't present in the 3rd picture. What form of spring is it, and where does it fit in the scheme of things, up near the pivot on the back? Would appreciate understanding this. THanks,

Yep, lots of extruded flat planes with plenty of bevels thrown in for highlights.

It's just a standard lockback, so when you press the thumb dent the front of the lock pivots out to release the blade. I actually have it set up so that when you move the blade the lock is moved automatically.
The spring is a length of spring steel, as opposed to a helix type spring, that runs from the back spacer to the underside of the thumb dent on the front lock. It is the resistance you feal when you press the lock.

Doesn't show any photos in any of the albums. You may need to move the pictures out of your inbox to one of the shared albums that they create automatically or make another, maybe "knives"

Okay, I am somewhat of a newbie (although I have been lurking for awhile) and I have found these images. Basically I was wondering is the Civilian was ever made with the reversible pocket clip. The literature says that it is tip down. So basically, who is right? Thanks much.

I'll second that question: Is the Civilian's clip reversible for tip-up carry these days?

Yep, I can confirm that the clip on the G-10 Civilian can be reversed for tip up or tip down carry.

Thank you very much for your help. I am sorry for the somewhat garbled post as well. Okay, so what you are saying, Ryan is that the holes that receive the screws are on the opposite side? Meaning one is on the "right" side of the knife, and the other is on the "left" side. Is this the way that all the Civilians were made? I have never owned or even really looked closely at a switch able (tip-up or tip-down) pocket clip (the only Spyderco I have is the military, which is a great knife BTW). Although from the images that yog created it would seem that the holes were on the same side. Am I missing something here (which is quite likely)? Anyway, thanks for the help.

Ryan is mistaken. Both sets of holes are on the same side - in other words, if you reverse the clip on a right-handed tip down, you will have a right handed tip up.
