I carried 4 spydies and a multi-tool all summer, and now I'm back to the over-restricive rules...
no pocketknives, and yet the awl/blade on my multi-tool could do a lot of damage(not to mention the weight). They don't care about the multi-tool, not even mentioned in any of their books(hit a grey area)...
This feels odd... get bored and couldn't even knife-sturbate the cricket, as I'm not even allowed to carry it at school. Just don't tell them about the SS Dragonfly IWB... hides better than the cricket.
We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

Just better hope that nobody who can recognize you from the information you provide doesn't lurk here, and report you. Should something like that happen, your post here would make it impossible to attempt to pass off as forgetfulness.

I already spoke with the other 2 Saskatoon knife knuts here on spydieland...
both are long gone from high school.

I still remember those days when you could carry a nail file w/o looking suspicious... <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>
Too bad knife collectors are stereotyped as "violent" by many. It's our duty, as responsible people to make that image fade. I usually stay away from stereotypes, they only tend to make others judgmental.

It is so sad.
In my daughter's school even a nail clipper with a nail file fails the zero tolerance test. Our school system is very protective of its students. While I appreciate their responsivness to dangerous situations, that protection only lasts while the kids are in school. What happens when the kids are on their way home from the bus?
In Brooklyn, where I grew up, the "K-55" panther knife I carried was certainly not permitted, but I truly felt protected when I carried it. Its only use occured when I snapped it open buying me time to escape. Between the distinctive sound of the blade locking open and the knowledge that I was carrying a good sized knife, my attackers changed their attitudes while I put a large amount of distance between us.
I feel it's not the knife, but what you do with it. Punish the bad behaviour!

My parents still wonder how I chop in the kitchen so fast... I can de-bone a chicken breast in 5 minutes... takes them 12...
even watched "matha steward living" last night and she chops a **** of a lot slower than I do. you can actually see her knife moving while she chops herbs.

oh to **** with that, i just started my new school today (aarg a whole day with no knives) right thru yearts 7 upwards i've allways carried a knife in school. i only got caught once,. i'm not leaving my "kit" at home for ne1, ne1 who stereotypes ppl who carry knives as psycos or w/e are nuts. are there any teachers in the forum? if so what are your opinions?

If you must knife-sturbate VW, try carrying a trainer. I know it's not the same, but at least it's better that nothing.(Nothing against trainers <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> )Some people would probably wonder why you had a knife with no edge and a red handle, but I guess they will never unerstand. BTW, I carry a Swiss Army Swiss card in my wallet (even though I shouldn't <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> and a SwissTech UtiliKey on my keychain(again, even though I shouldn't)and have never had any major problems.

If I was to get a Trainer, I'd be tempted to spin it through my fingers like I do with pencils. Just try that with a live blade and lose a finger or two...
I've been playing with the Delica for 2 yrs now, and get pretty carried away playing with it. If I didn't know exactly where the edge hit, I'd end up grabbing edge a few times. I toss throwing knives up, catching after 2' up and down... about 4-5 spins... started doing that with the delica(open!). Up to 8"-1', and 1 spin... nothing much, but if I had a trianer and transfered that to a live blade I'd be toast.

I'm a teacher and I carry my cricket everyday, in my subject I often need a blade. I use it discreeetly and don't flash it in front of staff or students.
Mind you, I wouldn't want students carrying a knife. Here's why:
Some students behave irresponsibly (you used the phrase "psychos" ) if you're honest you know there are kids in your school who can't/won't control themselves. Is it wise to allow those kids to walk around with a civilian? No, of course not. What about a harpy? What about a cricket?

Sure, a blanket ban on knives is a blunt (sic) piece of legislation but wouldn't you agree that something is needed?
Carrying a knife does not make you a psycho, but would you want a psycho carrying a knife?
You know that there is some kid in your school (hey, maybe it's you!) who acts with no thought of consequence, would you like to think he's carrying a Spydie? The school can only apply blankets rules, therefore, no Spydies. Sorry. It's life, it sucks sometimes.

yes yes that is true..and the ones that can't control themselves are the stupid ones so they aren't as creative so they won't think of a pen as a weapon and therefore won't use it..but however allow a knife and they would see a weapon and would use it...if it wasn't for the stupid people

I too am a high school teacher. I always carry a small knife (today an FRN Dragonfly)but as mentioned above do not flash it about. Our principal has an SAK on his keychain but students are banned form carrying knives. Unfortunately because of limited gang activity in the schools neighbourhood, I must agree with the ban. My kids do get to use a scalpel when disemboweling a variety of preserved beasties however. Society has certainly changed form the days when I was a highschooler...late 60's. We used to play with our flick knives while waiting for the anthem. Our teachers then did not spas on us, just told us not to play with our toys during class. Quite a difference form today.
