Better comfort?

#63

Post by Detdaddy »

For those of you who have both, the Native III and the S30V models, or who have handled both...

Which do you think is more comfortable to hold, or has a better grip?

I really like the S30V steel. But I'm more curious on your opinions regarding how they "feel."

I wish I knew of a Spyderco dealer closer to home so that I could compare the two.

If I were going to be cutting stuff for hours at a time, and it was stuff which could be cut most efficiently with a knife held in a "normal" grip, I'd go with the Native III. The the extra thickness and contouring of the handle make it more comfortable for prolonged use, at least in that grip. But they also make the Native III thicker in my pocket and less comfortable for me in alternative grips.

Considering that I sit on my EDC most of the day, and rarely cut for more than a few minutes at a time, those last two are more realistic concerns than the fatigue factor. So when I carry a Native I carry a C41, although I prefer the older ones without the Boye dent to the S30V version. Recently, with the help of a friend, I acquired a pre-dent 440V one, which will probably retire my GIN-1. :D

C41 Native for me. Love the thinner handle and the SpyderWeb tecture on the handle scales. Definitely the most "bang-for-the-buck" knife in the Syderco lineup. Already a classic and always will be!

Got a few and because my hands are a littler larger, I prefer the Native III. I carry it clipped in my right front pocket and it feels fine. I actually find myself checking my pocket just to make sure it's still there.

I can't believe i'm chipping in so late but once again, two thumbs up for the Native! had for 5 years, it's been with me in the army, it still goes with me to the army 3 times a year when I'm called for reserve service.
It does the hardest work around the house and comes outdoors when I know there are tough things to be cut.
The are many :spyder: 's I love and use for all kinds of jobs but the native is the only one that never rests, thank you Spyderco for making my life easier with that one :D

NATIVE: THEE Beginner Spyder

#70

Post by JD Spydo »

The 2 variations of the NATIVE model I love the best are the GOLDEN COLORADO natives with CPM blade steel and the older GIN-1 blade steel.

The one Seki City NATIVE I like is the stainless handled one with the AUS-10 blade.

I think WORKER#9 is on to something. The NATIVE Is almost like a "Beginner's LIL Temperance". I'm sure that's what my friend Worker#9 had in mind

It is sort of a BEGINNER'S Spyder for sure. And for those who live in strict blade limit law areas it is a great choice.

It is a great for sure. I carry my black bladed SE all the time. It is a do it all knife. I also think it is an excellent SD tool. I still have not been able to get one at Walmart, for one, I rarely go because I can't stand it and two, the few times I do go there sold out.

I really like the native too, but I also like the delica and to me
the native and the delica are like rivals, I wish we could get
the best of both in one knife.

You mean: Screw construction\ with stainless steel liners\4 way clip\native bladeshape\CPM S30V :D That would be really awesome :spyder:

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.
