Found my Dad's engraved knife.

Post by Mourner »

My father passed away some time ago. I have recently been going through his things. I found a Spyderco knife. Engraved - Pride Integrity Guts. Being engraved it was obviously a gift. I'd like to know who gave it to him, or at least why someone would engrave this kind of knife. Any information would help. Thank you.

Sounds like your looking for a needle in the dishwasher. It might be there, but probably not.

You might start with his name? You might also include information about the knife itself.

I can answer your last question - If I were to engrave a knife as a gift it would be a spyderco. Beauty, utility, edge. Fanaticism. ;-)

Best of luck

This sounds like an early C07 Police model. If it is is engraved on the blade, it was probably done by Spyderco. Does the handle have chamfered (beveled) edges and is it a right or left hand model? Either way, they are pretty rare (one of the hard to find models) and are quite valuable to collectors depending on the condition. Does anyone know the total number produced off hand?

I just found this on bladeforums, from Sal, about 2000 Police P.I.G. models. It seems like they would be easier to find if there were that many produced... Is that number total for right and left handed models I wonder... Here is the link.

More interesting history...

Hi Mourner. Welcome to the Spyderco forum. Sorry for your loss.

Spyderco did in fact produce about 2400 PIG models of the Police model. It was the first Police model and it was introduced with Pride, Integrity, Guts engraved on the blade. About 1984. That number included serrated and plain edge versions as well as right and left hand models.

Very interesting and informative thread.

Thanks, Ben, for those great links.

Anyone, I'm curious as to how much similar material is found in the Spyderco book?

Thanks,

Woops. Forgot to say welcome to you, Mourner. Sorry to hear of your loss. I'm very blessed not to have experienced that yet.
