Spydie "knockoffs"

Post by clipiteer »

Don't you just hate 'em? If they are going to try and copy Spyderco, couldn't they at least do a better job? I feel sorry for anyone who would buy a knife like that just because it costs $5. No other knife can come close to a Spyderco. What really burns me up is when people say "look at my Spyderco..." and procede to pull an A.B.S. Handled P.O.S. with a large plastic thumb STUD ( )through the blade(which also says "made in Taiwan" and doesn't even name the steel type)and a lock that wobbles and can be closed without even being pressed by putting five pounds of pressure on it out of their pocket... and then look surprised when you tell them it's not a Spydie.(especially if they still insist it is even though it's covered in rust and won't cut butter) Okay... I'm through... just had to get that over with. Thanks for putting up with me.

They have a use...

TENT PEGS!

We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

I have to agree totally. I have seen knives that were spot-on copies of Spyderco knives, yet the maker insists they are unique. There is a knife down at my local hardware store which is a perfect copy of the Ladybug, down to the blade shape and checkering of the FRN.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Before I knew any better, more than a year before I found the forums, I bought a box of a dozen of those Ladybug knockoffs, mostly to put in Christmas stockings. I think I gave $10 for the 12 knives. Maybe that included shipping.

I guess because they were so small, I never really paid them any attention. The one I gave my Dad, he set next to his PC, and he uses it strictly to open mail. I do have to say the little buggers were sharp.

I finally caught one of the sellers of many knives on the Home Shopping Network. (Unfortunately, missed the episode where one of the guys stabbed himself with a sword. Would have given a lot to see that.) ANyhow, the goofiest thing about the sales of the large #s, or the big question in my mind, who would want a dozen each of 7 or 8 knives, then maybe a dozen of the outrageous, goofy huge fantasy knives? If I had the money, I wouldn't buy a dozen different Sebenzas. Maybe 2 or 3, but not 12. I really don't understand. One one thing I saw, the knives worked out to a dollar apiece. SUrely anybody in their right mind doesn't think that a quality knife can be made for a dollar, even with slave labor! I would think that even 420J2 would cost more than that. Yeeesh!

I know what you are talking about. I work with a guy who pays 10.00 dollar a square on ball boards to win one. Then shows it off like hes really got something and gets upset if you tell him he would be better off if he would take the 50 or 60 dolars he spent to win it and buy a spydie.

"Tent-pegs"! *still laughing, VW. LOL*

I had a guy in my CalcIII class comment on the clip glimmering in my pocket. "Oh cool, you have a spyderco, too?"

I was very disappointed to find he didn't have a _real_ one. He's smart enough to learn calculus right? Geez.
