Girlfriends Birthday.

#1

Post by Toolin »

I have narrowed it down to two knives I want to give my girl for her birthday.

1. Mother of Pearl Delica plain edge.

2.Tim Wegner Mouse.

I don't know if the Mother of Pearl Delica is a very good value because I don't really know what Mother of Pearl is. I know the Mouse is a better knife then the Delica, but I don't know if she will value function over looks. Please help. Thanx.

the mouse is a nice one I think better than the delica, but its heavy for its size, I have it in a neak seath for jogging and its a little bulky.
Will bring it tomorrow to work to take a few pictures and post them to

I want all of them

Toolin', I would get either knife myself, so the best answer I can give you is to get BOTH for her. Come on, don't be a cheapskate!!!

Okay, seriously, I do like both of them. Mother of Pearl is used on many fine folders and will be more delicate than the almite-coated aluminum. But that silver spider is nice. Here are two encarta links that aren't terribly informative, but a start.

The blade lengths are pretty different. I have held off on the Mouse because it is pretty darn small. Unless your girlfriend going to scare people with an almost 3 inch blade, I would get the Delica, as it will just be more multi-purpose IMO.

First, Toolin, I envy you greatly for having a lady who you think would appreciate a knife as a present. Think awful hard before you let her get away.

I don't own either. The pictures I've seen of the MOP Delica are drop dead gorgeous. As much as I like it, must confess it looks more like a lady's knife than a man's. The Mouse is really cute, IMO. I've handled one, and I think it is a very useful knife for every day chores. I don't think it offers a lot in the line of emergency self defense, as does the Delica. The Delica too, by nature is very utilitarian. But,the MOP makes it look more delicate than the standard model.

She's going to be a lucky lady, either way.

Mother of pearl is the shinny inside part
of an oyster shell.
My wife likes the mother of pearl delica.

Straight from the encyclopedia.com:

mother-of-pearl or nacre Pronounced As: nakr, the iridescent substance that forms the lining of the shells of some fresh-water and some salt-water mollusks. Like the pearl it is a secretion of the mantle, composed of alternate layers of calcium carbonate and conchiolin. Among the chief sources are the pearl oyster, found in warm and tropical seas, chiefly in Asia; the fresh-water pearl mussel, which lives in many rivers of the United States and Europe; and the abalone of California, Japan, and other Pacific regions.

I think a mother of pearl delica would be a nice gift...my girl's b-day is coming up, but she, unfortunately, would rather have a ring. I think if I end up getting married a good gift for the groomsmen would be engraved spydercos.

Thanx guys. Oh by the way, she does not know she is getting a knife. I want to get her something she can use everyday, yet seem pretty and lady like. Something she can show her girlfriends. Hehe, and I would not give her away for the world. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>
