Sal - Clipless Dragonfly?

I know you get a million suggestions, I'm almost sorry to ask. Had you ever thought of a clipless Dragonfly? When I carry mine I never use the clip just drop it in my pocket. A slimmer clipless version would be more pocket friendly, and it would be nice to feel the volcano grip on both sides.

Not content with just unscrewing the clip?

You can please most of the people some of the time; and some of the people most of the time. But you can't please all of the people all of the time.

I guess maybe I was not specific enough. I was referring to the FRN Dragonfly. This model has an integral molded clip. It's not removable.

The FRN clip is removable, you can never put it back on, but it can be ground off. I broke the clip on my Delica, cut off what was left, filed down the little nub of plastic that was still there, and then installed a metal clip.
If you don't ever use the clip and never plan to use it, cut it off.

Yes of course it's removeable!! if I want to hack, or grind it off, but as Dav also failed to note in my initial post I would prefer to have the "volcano grip" on both sides. I like my Spyderco"s for their quality and aesthetics. I don't plan on chopping one of mine up.

I carry my carbon fiber Dragonfly clipless in the watch/change pocket of my jeans. I also removed the clip from my almite Michael Walker which also fits in the watch pocket. My tufram Cricket tho feels better and provides better purchase with the clip on it.
Spyderco did make a couple knives without clips. The lightweight Minidyad was meant to ride inside, as was the Jess Horn stag handle and also the Lagioule (sp), anyway the long skinny French Basque knife.

Sorry, the Jess Horn did had a clip. just no hole.

I have not seen one of the carbon fiber Dragonfly's. Sounds like a nice piece. I do like the clips on my larger knives, but sometimes you just want a little pocket dropper. Is the almite Walker really light?

Mike V........
The almite Walker is not nearly as light as the Dragonfly, being larger and made from aluminum.

The CF Dragonfly is beautiful, light and strong..... butt it is expensive, discontinued and very glossy and slick.

I would recommend you try the Calypso Jr lightweight. It has a flat ground blade of the excellent VG10 steel, and its FRN handles are highly textured on both sides and the clip is easily removed. It is however a little larger than the Dragonfly.

Ahhh...I forgot about the grip on both sides. Whoops. Oh well. Well some day, years from now, if the clip ever breaks off, then you can grind the rest off.

Yeah you just feel more in control with that grippy texture on both sides of the knife. To me the Dragonfly is almost too small to clip to the pocket. It does not hang in very far and I fear losing it. I just think it's a nice sized pocket-dropper and it would be great clipless, in FRN, with volcano grip or fish scales.
But hey, if the clip did break I'd grind her smooth.
