I played with the Captain for quite a while during the SHOT Show in Las Vegas. :D
These pictures don’t do it justice. It feels as solid as a Manix 83mm but without the weight. The only disappointing thing is that it is tip-down carry only.

Regards, :)

Jason Breeden custom collaboration is a very ergonomic knife with a G-10 handle, steel liners and a VG-10 blade. It is a liner lock and has a large belly for skinning, a re-curve on the inside for cutting things like boxes. It has a very unique look. It also feels great in the hand.

Almost sounds like a draft for the catalog description... :D

The Captain almost looks like something I'd use in the kitchen! And maybe backpacking. Fishing is definitely on the list...

This is one of those genuinely impressive knives! Many times a new knife will focus on a certain task, but designing an entirely new (IIRC) blade is something that really only happens once in a blue moon. In thinking of the main cutting tasks in a day, this looks like it would be able to do many of them very well (with the clear exception of working on precision cuts).

The thought that comes to mind here is that many of the current knives rightfully focus on finesse and being able to do the job well. This will be one of those ultimate "if it don't work, just hit it with a bigger hammer" type of work knives. Haven't seen one of those in a while, but would be pleased to see something like that on the job site, and even more pleased to be carrying one!

Thanks for the pics Kristi. This blade shape looks familiar
Also thanks Scott, Jurawut and Jur for the explanations. I think I'm gonna love the ZDP Delica. :D

Thanks for the Captain pictures, not my cup of tea I'm afraid but judging from the reactions of fellow forumites it should be an instant classic. Now any chance of some superhawk pictures?? pretty please? :p

Great to hear the UKPK is coming to the US, but ...

is the "Caly 3" still in the works?

I hope so, and that the UKPK is just to tide us over!

PLEASE consider an upscale handle material for the Caly 3 ...

I know Sal mentioned bolsters ... would love to see something nicer than Micarta ... such as wood or bone on this one.

Thanks again for all the news!

OK fellas, I am sharing your joy with you, but El Capitano is not my cuppa either.
Got anothers on my list.
Pretty short list...

I hope the Caly 3 is coming soon too.
Will the low ride clips be offered as an aftermarket item this year?
Thanks Kristi.

So, the big question for me is: are the G-10 Byrds going to have liners or are they linerless?

Jurphaas wrote:Hi All - I was at the SHOT Show and I can tell you that the G-10 Cara Cara and Meadowlark models are absolute TOP NOTCH! They really stand out and the progress that Spyderco made with these knives can not measured in steps but more in leaps!
Super fine detail and smooth workmanship. Steel liners beneath the G-10 scales. Decorated spine!!!!!!!!

The G-10-Byrds do have steel liners,as Jurphaas already mentioned.

I just saw the article from Doug Ritter for the SHOT show. The below is the link:

http://www.equipped.com/shot_show_2006_knives.htm

I notice one thing about the Starling. It seems like a very nice key chain knife at MSRP $15. This price is hard to beat.

But I wonder one thing, this Byrd knife will be produced by Spyderco. But Spyderco will put it under Byrd line. So I am curious about the production.

Would this knife produce in Japan or China? And what kind of steel will be used in this knife?

Kristi or anyone know? Please help me out.
