many years ago I looked at Spyderco products. I personally don't like lockback knifes and at that time it was all I could find. I ended up purchasing my first "good" knife as a Benchmade. I beat the hell out of it and it is now retired. I then purchased a Spyderco "Wayne Goddard" and wasn't all that impressed with it. Well, after starting to get into knifes I purchased a Viele with Spyderedge, I never base my opinion on just one model from a maker. I have to say this knife is probably the best knife I own at the current time bar none!!! I have a Civilian on order right now for the looks and to carry on Duty.
I plan on ordering several liner lock Spydies in the next several months. I have on my "wish" list the Viele straight edge, the Lum Tanto, and a Shabaria and Herbst.
I prefer better scales like G-10 or Micarta as opposed to the FRN but that's a cosmetic thing. I don't think Spyderco has anything to appologise for as far as quality goes. I think it is the equal or better to any other production knife in ANY price point.
And my understanding is that the customer service is second to none.
