Next Spyderco dialex design?

Post by catamount »

I started a thread asking which dialex design you would like to see Spyderco produce next. The top 4 were:

Pioneer

Prowler

Gentlebug

TopTac

Alex said he would post more info on each of the designs. So, go ahead and cast your vote for the next Spyderco dialex design.

Prowler for me. Without the extra holes in the blade, please. :)

Me too. I haven't had a great desire to get one of the heavy duty :spyder: s, but I would definitely buy a TopTac.

This should be fun to watch ;)

How's 2008 sound? That's how long it will probably take to get a good consensus :p

I choose "other" as mentioned in the other thread. I just love being difficult :D

My picks

I voted for the Gentlebug. I like the black handles and agree with spydutch that g-10 is the way to go. Also, I perfer the compression lock.

My second choice is the Prowler.

Though i love all of theese designs and would most likely carry the gentlebug, i voted for the prowler because i am in love w/ its shape and it would be bumped to my sd carry in a flash.

Before I vote, I'm new to Spydercos, what's a Dialex? Is that a designer?

Hi everybody. First, let me tell you how surprised (in a most enjoyable way, of course) I am of your interest in my work. A big Thank You to you all, and to those who make this community possible (aka Sal & co). Hopefully, if the Adventura will have a decent success, Sal will consider other of my designs too :o But since we are here, nothing stops us to start our quest for "Thee Knife".
We are in the dream stage, so for now there are no limits. You want a Prowler with compression lock and clip point blade? Or maybe an oversized Gentlebug? Ask and you shall be given :)
So far, the Toptac is similar to the Military in size and materials. It features a compression lock, with skeletal nested liners.
The Prowler is close to the Adventura in size, also with a compression lock (we can change it to a modified ball lock a la "Pickle" if you like). It features a FRN handles also with minimal liners.
The Gentlebug is a small knife with a big hole. Dimensionally speaking, it is somewhere between a Cricket and a Dragonfly. The one I'm preparing for Spyderco has an integral compression lock. The blade is in full flat grind, 2.5 mm thick (we can change it to 2 mm if you want a slicer, or to 3 mm if you want to abuse the little one).
The Pioneer is close to the Native in size, and I think it feels comparably in the hand. It features the "obsolete" lockback, but I wanted it to have a vintage look, so I couldn't put something else. I presume many like it because of the stag, Damascus and bolsters, so I present you and alternative as well: an alternative:
