I just purchased a G-10 Standard, because I love my Stainless model so much, and I have a question about the G-10's. The clip, attaches with three screws through the G-10 scale to the steel plate behind it. But because the pivot (allen head) screw is rounded (sits up, not flush with the G-10 scale) the clip had to be moved so that the point of the three screw attachment actually sits over the lip of the bevel on the G-10 scale. Hope that I painted a good picture. I've wanted a G-10 standard for along time, when I saw one for the first time I did not think that the clip was so high on the G-10 scale. I thought that it was maybe a 1/32" to a 1/16" lower and may have covered the pivot. That the clip placement was closer to that of my Stainless Standard. Am I hallucinating? If there are different models, why and how could I tell the difference before internet purchase?
The placement of the clip in no way affects the performance. In fact, I carry it is a duty knife and since it sits lower in my pocket it is more concealed, all the better. My question is purely aesthetic and to check my own memory.
Standard model variations?
Hi Akarmes. Welcome to the forum. The original Standard had a clp that was stamped out of the front side scale (circa 1985). The next stainless version used a clip mounted tip down, but the pivot was flush with the scales so placement was simple. On the G10 version, the pivot is raised so the clip had to be positioned more carefully to avoid the pivot.
