Thanks Ookami. I have never seen anyone put up the 2 different variations. I have 2 of the ones which you can take apart with a jeweler's phillips screwdriver. I have heard that the riveted ones can be worked on though.
I have put the Shabaria higher on my top 10 list of favorite Spyders. It used to be 10 I have moved it up to 6. That blade is a classic in the TRUEST sense. IF I had 8 of them in my collection it wouldn't be too many.
If anyone knows which was the first folder to be graced with VG-10 blade steel I wish someone would tell me. I have heard from one guy that it was the big C-54 Calypso. I heard on Bladeforums that it was the Massad Ayoob. I heard from another Forum brother that it was this knife the Shabaria. IF anyone knows which it was I would like to know.
The Shabaria is a design of Engineering genius  :spyder:

yeah, i have to say I like 'em both, although, the numbered one has a slightly warped blade, which is hardly visible in nature and invisible in the pictures. now that I have both I EDC the unnumbered one.

Ookami

ps: @cold fusion, sorry but I really don't need a kidney. I already have two and they are in my regular EDC ;) btw, that's just gross

Ookami,
Nice pictures of a nice knife. I think I am going to carry my Shabaria today. I have a user, and one that stays in the box. Both riveted. I never did pick up the "new" version with the open back and screws. Is it alot lighter then the closed back?? My carry Shabaria has had the clip fliipped for tip up carry. Thanks for the pics.

I think it was the Calypso that had VG-10 first. SOmeone else will know for sure. :)

the riveted one is a bit heavier, but not by much. BUT, for ease of carry and cleanability I like the open-frame one better for EDC and what's more it isn't numbered.

Very nice pics & thanks for showing the differances.
The one i have is of the solid back ,rivetted,VG-10,part serrated ,numbered variety.
I assume that the rivetted version was the first variant?
Is this correct?
Thanks for the info.

Hi Ookami, thanks for the pics and comments. When I first saw the Shabaria, I said this is knife art. Later on, when I got mine, and had the opportunity to take a closer look, I've seen there's place for improvement. Don't get me wrong, the knife is great (my wife carries it with great pleasure), and I'd like an updated version anytime.

As would I. It's a great knife. But I think a comp lock version would be better suited to it.

Great pictures though, making me regret selling mine. :(

I've been pushing for a comp lock Shabaria sprint run for some time now.

Maybe with maroon micarta

I seem to recall something happening to the designer. What happened to him/her?

Those are wicked looking knives! Would it be possible to see an "in-hand" pic of one of those? The handle doesn't look comfortable to me, but I know looks can be decieving. Thanks for sharing with us!

Eduard Bradichansky was killed during a terrorist attack in Israel, I believe. I could be mistaken, given my pitiful memory. Those who have more details, please feel free to correct me. Any change to the design is not likely to happen, out of respect for the design who is no longer with us.

Depending on the size of your hand, the Shabaria can be VERY comfortable. If your hand is too large though, it may not be as comfortable.

Sorry to dig this thread up, but I think I have a chance to buy a Shabaria for $160. The dealer says that the knife is a back lock though, so I'm wondering were there any Shabarias made with a back lock or were they all liner locks?

Also, is the price good?

Thanks!
