How could Spyderco improve their Clipits?

#1

Post by TK »

How could Spyderco improve their Clipit line, especially the upper-class US made Spydies?

They did the first step by updating from nylon to PB washers. But how could the evolution go on? My vote would be pivot bushings like Chris Reeve uses for his Sebenza.

What are your suggestions?

They are very good already ;) .

Few points maybe:

No rivets on the pivot anymore, all adjustable like on the new Delica/Endura

Option for fully serrated on all models (like Manix 80 mm, ZDP Caly, NavigatorII, ZDP Delica ect.) It seems that Spyderco is less inclined to make fully serrated blades lately. But maybe that's just me

Perhaps I'm simply uninformed due to my preference for Spyders, but could someone enlighten me as to what pivot bushings are and what purpose they serve?

This "How do we make them better" question was posed somewhere before, and I can't for the life of me remember my answers(they've probably changed anyway), but I think one that popped up a lot was to have better quality control in the Golden Facility.

Another I mentioned was more lefty friendly models, which Spyderco has very kindly done. Four way clips on the new Delica and Endura is above and beyond what I asked for. ;)

Pivot bushings are little tubes that are a little bit bigger than the blade plus the two washers. The pivot bushing runs through the hole in the blade tang, and the pivot runs through the pivot bushing. The purpose they serve is, that you have to tighten the pivot screw and you have a smooth open/close action without bladeplay. No more adjustments necessary. When you take your knife apart to clean it, you only have to assemble it correctly and tighten all screws and the action is like before.

so far as I'm concerned the Delcia/Endura design is the best. I can use a quater to remove for cleaning and then replace. How has time to find the mini screw drived set? Sal has himself a get design and shouldn't mess with it.

A low ride clip would be nice. I get tired of the "is that a knife? " questions.

Too late. They're already changing that design.

The only thing I dont like about any of my knives is that my delica only has one screw holding the clip in place. It comes loose, and moves back and forth. I wish they all had three screws.

Low riding/ deep pocket clips. :) :)

I think Sal should sell them as an extra/spare. So we could convert some of our old :spyder: as well.
