I think a Caribbean LW first, with a fixed detent, then maybe one in MC. I would just prefer the optimizations paired with a steel I know I love before making it a completely different knife.thewoodpecker wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 3:30 pmAbout the CaribbeanWould be 100% on board for a Caribbean LW with Magnacut.sal wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 12:52 amMy long term goal is FRN. To introduce this new but some what strange model, I needed a pattern with good grip and easily visible. It was kind of a "Watershed" model. Materials , fitted, nested liners, LC, etc. When we catch up a bit, I'd like to make this model with an FRN pattern.

Sal on the question about a larger and more choppy (blade heavy) Schempp Kukri
sal wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 12:46 am...
I guess we'll have to see what Ed thinks? I have the Schempp Rock in it's original prototype which is an excellent light chopper. Easy to carry and very effective. Mostly on small branches on a tree I'm cutting up for firewood. I also have all of the variations that also get used. (I don't use the Salt much n the Rockies).
I can see the interest. We'll hide-n-watch.
...
Even if he [Ed] thinks it's a good idea, it will take some time to design, build a proto, or more than one if necessary. And then go from there?

Re: Sal's Casual Bombshell Thread
possible demko collab?
sal wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 8:18 pmHi Michal O,
Frankly, I wasn't that impressed with the Triad lock. It was solid and strong, but it did have other issues that I wouldn't want to deal with. Now Andrew's newer locks are quite nice and we're dancing around possible collaboration with him, but he's pretty busy doing his own thing, so we'll see,
Also, Kaizen in Japan, or our CQI is always going on. The new Production Stretch 2 XL that I just received has no play and the lock head is far deeper into the tang well than the sample you have.

That would be fantastic but seems pre-mature, fingers crossed.

Re: Sal's Casual Bombshell Thread
Sounds like it would be a perfect addition to the Sage Series.

I think I'd be more interested in seeing Spyderco's power lock over this catfish lock.

Re: Sal's Casual Bombshell Thread
I think it would be cool if there was a custom spyderco knife website.where you could create your own knives out of a bunch of Sal’s designed handles , locks, clips ,blade steel type ,even custom embossing.there would be different prices on material. Then even a contest where Sal picks coolest designs for spyderco catalog

There has been much clamor and debate regarding this topic. I don't want to dump dirt on your fire, but for many reasons this just could not work, both for business and for customer. It is a nice thought, however.

It’s the future but will be costly.mass produced custom knives will keep knife collecting alive.it’s part of old world charm tailored high quality at a price?

It's not the thread for conversation at all, it's Sal's bombshell thread. I'll wait for someone to tell me that my comment is hypocritical-because we haven't heard that about 50 times in this thread already.

Sal on a Chaparral with TEETH! (2mm ffg in SE!!)

And, same post:
"I made the FRN [Chaparral] version because I felt there was a market for a less expensive utility version. This also offers opportunity for colors, exclusive variations"
Could mean, potentially: Chap in another steel? (Chap Salt?)
