Swick-ified DODO...

#1

Post by RLR »

I have been in the process of culling the heard - keep knives I use and get rid of those that are just drawer queens. I came to the Dodo. I love it's ergos, used it, but couldn't really sharpen to my specs, and it did fall way back in rotation. The question came up: what do I do with it? Answer: turn it into MY knife. I am a wharncliffe freak (remember the spot/swick ;) ). So, I swick-ed the Dodo. It's back at the front of the line. A razor in pocket, easy to sharpen and more versatile (for me). Here she be:

I fully dig it now. Best hour or so I've spent on a knife (along with Swick).

Yet again, another dodo mod. Brings smiles to my face. I am becoming a true fan of this wonderful knife, and soon enough i think ill just have to buy it in bulk. Great mod, and thanks for sharing.

Very nice work! Looks very practical. Did you color those screws black as well, or did they come like that out of the box?

Black screws are from a stash of screws I have of mods, dead knives, etc... I stripped the original and put these in. Good catch.

It appears the Dodo is a great platform for mods. Looks like it is to be the "modular" knife Sal wanted in the Poliwog.
I kept the hook on mine for stripping wire and opening bubble packs.

I like it but I love the Dodo as it is. I think this is exactly what I'd do to a Dodo if I ever broke the tip though. I would also (of course) get one if factory.

RLR Did you tanto and sharpen the nose of the dodo? What a great idea! I will have to get a dodo to fix like yours! I wish :spyder: would make a lower price point tanto in vg-10 so I could retire my voyager. Nice work RLR! :D

I ground the blade down the old school way, by hand. Diamond file, old oil stones I use for this type of work and then reprofiled the edge with a 220 water stone, polished with 1000 water stone and shined with 4000 water stone and strop.

The Tip is NOT sharpened - that would be dangerous in pocket
