Why don't they bring it back with a different twist to it. In the new one you could also add Diamond & ultra fine stones just like in the 204 Sharpmaker. You could also add a medium stone like in the 204 as well. If that tool had that versatility I know there would be a lot more professionals taking a serious look at it. To me it is just a whole lot more controllable than the 204 for the bigger knives. It wouldn't take much to re-engineer it. Also I have wondered: Is anyone out there collecting Spyderco's sharpening devices along with knives? :spyder:
Bring back the GALLEY V
Bring back the GALLEY V
You know you are a devout Spyder-head when you have every Spyderco sharpening device including the Galley V. The last time I ever saw it listed as being available was in the 2001 dealer catalog. I still use mine for big chefs and other culinary knives. It truly was a very unique and versatile tool for bigger knives.

Aloha JDSpydo!
I don't collect :spyder: sharpening tools, but I DO wish that I had landed a Galley V when I saw one back in...what was it...98? I liked the shape of the rods, and the fact that ya had to secure it to a base was fine with me. :p
Great suggestion and God bless

Dealers catalog
Rob you need to find an old Spyderco Dealer's catalog. They have a really good picture in the 2000 and 2001 catalogs both. :spyder:
Chad if you can find one or 2 of the replacement stones for the Galley V then I highly recommend you getting them. They had kind of "cat'seye" shape to them. That's what I sharpen my PE Dodo with. It does an excellent job on it and it does a pretty decent job on Hawkbills. There are a few dealers that still have the replacement stones in stock. The last I heard of anyone finding a complete Galley V unit was last December on Bladeforums. A guy in Canada said he found one through an internet source. :) :spyder:

Different stone shape
Rob it is the shape of the stones that make this sharpening tool unique. I can do my Dodo and some of my Hawkbills ( i.e. Harpy, Merlin, Spyderhawk, Civilian Ect) on that set up a little better than I can on the 204. Not taking anything away from the 204 it is a state of the art tool. I just wish they would bring back the stones from the Galley V is nothing else. Get you a Dodo and try to sharpen it then you will see what I mean :)

What I have
Well Spyderknut the one I originally got in 2002 from the Spyderco Factory Store came with one set of stones. However I bought 2 additional sets when I found out that they were going to be discontinued. The way I mount mine is on a workbench top with 2 C clamps with rubber on them so not to damage the unit. It works pretty good that way. Like I said they are the "cat's meow" on big knives. JD :spyder: 'Ospyderknut wrote:I would love to have one or two of these. Did it need to be mounted on a flat surface or could it also be mounted on a vertical surface? Did they only come with one set of stones?
