Beautiful knife. Nice pictures!

Do you guys think that design would work if it was made at say 3 1/4" closed, for those of us that like a smaller size knife?

I liked it enough in fact, to order a larger, LH, custom one from Bob Lum.

Absolutely, here are some pictures of the original 3 prototypes. The middle one is the production model. I believe Sal's wife carries the smallest one.

The other photos are of the knife of my dreams :D .

Thanks Clay, that one looks quite a bit like the one I saw at the NYCKS. Delivery of the LH one I ordered after looking at it is still about 9 months off and sonagrams don't work for knives :D so I can't post pics of mine yet.

You can count me as a card carrying member of the Lum fan club.
I saw the picture of the web engraved Lum in the back of the 25th aniversary catalog and had to have it. Dropped my green PE off at SFO
and a couple of weeks later this is what came back.

Is that 25 year catalog still available? Looks like some sweet knives inside! i am always baffled how u get those special editions. If i wan't one i have to check Ebay, and beeing on a low budget won't get me much "rare" one's.

Hi Mongo,

The 25th aniversary catalog that I referred to was the 2003 general catlog.
It had some examples of what the factory can do with their laser engraver.
I contacted the Spyderco Factory Outlet and they sent my knife in for engraving.

I love this thread, I have a green PE Lum that is one of my favorites. Something about that beautiful leaf blade that is so right, great knife.

We need to to keep posting about the Lum Chinese. That way we can tempt Sal into building a CF handled one with S30V or maybe even ZDP!

The lum Chinese is a nicer use to me than the Calypso jr, and pretty enough to go anywhere. I'd love to see a nice sprint run, but with all that's in the pipeline I don't want to seem greedy.....well not too much ;)

Geeeeez Clay -
Your pix are awesome.....I wanna be a member of Chinese Lum Club too  The engraved spidey scales are not my cup of tea compared to the possibility of customs/sprint run with G-10 or micarta. Well, your pix are fantastic. You've got us alllll drooling :p and stuff. How about one with ivory paper micarta and a black blade....or steel blue canvas micarta.
Who did the G-10 custom? Beautiful job - love the gradient on the scale edges.
The other day I found myself in a jam and had to ! :( !GULP! :( ! cut through some steel wire with mine and it was a PE....glad to say the edge came right back, and a lot faster than I thought it was going to. Still I was mad at myself. I have a beater Native which lives on the floor of the truck, it has a busted tip & I usually use it for "those kinds" of emergencies...
><((('< ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My dream Spyderco: H1 folder with G-10, H1 or MICARTA scale. Time to lose the FRN only attitude with regard to H1

Well, I have to add my two cents… I love the Lum Chinese. It is my favorite spidie so far. The bad thing (or good thing depending on how you look at it) is I use mine everyday at work and it is staring to wear out! I is unfortunate such a great knife was discontinued. I don’t have the heart to us the blue one I have… I hope Spyderco makes more soon… (that is a hint!)

All my favorite spidies are discontinued! I am still looking for a Tim Zowada (sp?).

yeah, no doubt......**** i forgot to take my Paxil
I wanna be buried with all my knives (just like king tut) in my coffin! Actually, I want my plain SS ATR in my R front pocket, my Paramilitary set up Southpaw'style in my L front pocket, and my SPOT Micarta around my neck !!!! :p :p :p :p
