No, because they are illegal to possess and illegal to "dispose of" (a neat legal catch-all term for anything remotely resembling selling). Now, in theory, Sal could set up a totally separate company, in a state where autos are legal and manufacturer and distribute them from there. Just a question of whether it would be worth the hassle. Frankly, even if I lived someplace where autos were legal, I'm not sure if I'd ever buy one, and for sure would never carry one, I trust my thumb a lot more than any spring.

Sal has said it will never happen. I can index flick my Millie open as fast as I can open my M/T LCC auto. They are neat...that is why I have one even if they are HIGHLY illegal in Canada. Take Care!!

Well you make a good point about the legal issues Nicky but I got the Solution. The Cold Steel knife company found a cure to that non-sense. What they did was to make another factory/distribution center in Texas where all the other goodies that are not legal in California ( their headquarters) could be sold at the Texas outlet. That way they could make all their butterfly knives, sword canes or any other controversial items at the Texas facility. That would be the solution for the Great Spyder Factory as well. Wouldn't Spydie look good in a cowboy hat? He could also put spurs ( another great old classic knife) on all eight of his feet. They could say " yippie KI aaye" when they answer the phone at that plant. It's an idea anyway. :D :spyder: :D

Well auto's are illegal here in TX as well. Most dealers here sell them though but only to leo and military.

How does BM make autos out there. Is it legal there?

How about South Dakota. I can go to a local dealer and buy a butterfly knife or an auto. The only knife law we have here is that minors cannot carry butterfly knives.

Nothing is impossible.

I said we had no plans to make neck knives, but we did.

We're making buttertflies.

We found the "loophole" that the "other auto makers" are using.

If we make em', will you buy em?

As much as I love Spyderco, no. Not worth the possible consquences in this state. Must admit, for purely selfish reasons, I hope you decide against this course of action. I fear that, here in NY, the rest of the Spyderco line will be tarred with the same brush. As can be seen by the actions of Canadian customs, the line of legal distinction between a locking blade knife and a gravity knife is wherever those charged with enforcing it choose to place it. I'm too old to just quit my job and move for the sake of my toys, so would like to at least keep my present collection legal till I retire and can choose my place of abode more freely.

I would buy several as soon as they hit the shelf. I know a lot of other LEO's that would also.

Yes Mr. Glesser I would certainly buy one. For one thing the switchblade laws are totally antiquated and need to be repealed anyway. We the people can change the present state of things if we the people demand them. I understand the fellow forum member from NY being leary about owning one in that state. What he needs to realize is that the state in that case is the one that is wrong not the legitimate knife user. I am certain that not only will there be a market for them; there will be a good market for them. :spyder:

Not me. I'll never get through my backlog of must-have existing Spydercos as it is. And then there's the Lil Temp2, Bison, and designs from Dialex and Chad...
