Spyderco Dodo one handed closing movie

#1

Post by Burnett »

Both here and on blade forums I read questions about closing a Spyderco Dodo one handed. This little movie shows that it is quite easy to do (with a little practice). It maybe useful for people who don't own a Dodo yet and wonder about it. :)

I've never been fond of the Dodo (never handled one) but your video makes it look and sound so solid that I'm starting to change my opinion...

Ridgid thumbnail

Like " severedthumbs" says it really does take a very ridgid thumbnail to facilitate those moves. I do indeed love the little Dodo however. It seems like there is always a tradeoff on everything and the little "S Razor" is no different. :spyder: :)

Well, I always flick the Dodo, just like you would do with a BM Axis. That is with one hand too, and I think safer and much faster than this method...

Nice vid! That's the same way I do it. Indeed requires a thumb-nail.

My friend has one and I have no problem closing it one handed without touching the blade. I just barley shift the knife, not violent at all. I can do it with my D'allara as well they both are wicked smooth.

I must agree, the video idea is a nice idea but that method shown looks very involved and may give a different impression as to the Dodo's operation. My method is akin to the quote above. I can close it without a thumbnail engagement, just the pad of the thumb. Opening it, I don't even touch the lock or the blade, just a flick.

too bad I have no way of filming it.. :(

my dodo is my EDC. i flick it open (without touching the ball-lock) and close it by deactivating the ball-lock and brushing the back of the balde against my leg. all in one motion i close the knife against my leg and put it back in my poscket. it takes less than a second. pretty smooth looking too :-)
