New Police
New Police
Is there a new Police model in the works?
what luke warm?
why is that? the police is my favorite spyderco! after the military.
I was hoping that the endura would come out in g10. but I guess if the police isn't doing well in g10 then the endura probably would follow suit.
I know there would be 1 purchase though.
hello again from thailand

Hi Phad. Welcome to the Spyderco forum.
Kapunkob for the support.
Some of my "best" designs (IMO) have not met with wide acceptance...though some have been quite popular.
The Stainless Police model has been one of our most popular, but the G10 version has not. I think it has to do with the original Police model being a "classic" Spyderco.

I have an idea why the Police in G10 doesn´t sell that much.
I was going to buy one in SS but the G10 felt better in my hand (not so slippery). But then I noticed that it only has one liner (I think it´s called). That gave me the feeling (yes, very subjective) that it was not as robust as the SS version. I have discussed this with other people and they agree with the "feeling" explanation.
It´s must be hard to manufacture products in new materials when the customer get a "feeling" that doesn´t go away.
Lots of psychology in marketing, as usual.
Just my opinion on the subject.

(no I did not buy a police, I´m saving up for a gunting trainer and a live blade, with two liners)

The flat-ground, G-10, plain-edged Police is one of my favorite Spydercos. It is a work of art.
As someone who appreciates fine craftsmanship with an empahsis on durability and usability, I can't thank everyone at Spyderco enough for their hard work and creativity. I'm especially fond of Sal's designs.
Sincerely,
stu

I think the SS version won over the hard core buck users. Alot of oldtimers think weight equals strength. they don't have faith in the light space age materials.
only a matter of time , I also forsee BUCK coming out with a "spaceage" 110.
I have to agree with colinz that the liner really helped and I have the one with the single, I think the earlier version didn't have any liners and that was a bit too light for me.
being on the beach gives one alot of time to think about knives.
take it easy

I'll admit that the G10 Police allows the user a better grip and is lighter than the SS version; however, the SS version is alot more comfortable to carry than the G10 version. Since the knife spends more time riding somewhere in my pants/shorts pocket or waistband than actually being used, this is an important factor.
Compared to the SS the G10 is slightly thicker and alot rougher on the pants material when clipped in or out of the pocket or waistband. It wears out the clothing material prematurely and causes drag when deploying the knife.
I want a Police version that is in-between these two. My dream setup would be titanium scales with a VG-10 hollow ground plain-edged blade. Almite (like on the "Toad"--but not like on the "Navigator" or "Ayoob"<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> instead of titanium and flat grind instead of hollow would also be acceptable to me. Black clip and colored handles, please.
As Capt. Picard of Star Trek would say, "Make it so."
