Anyone seen this "rat"?

#1

Post by AllenETreat »

I was just perusing this in the Shomer Tec catalog
( the image is from some Czech judo website ) I know, I know,
not :spyder: but I was wondering what everyone thought
of Swamp Rat knives ( and this is apparently a new model. )

Swamp Rat's knives are awesome! Very great mixture of toughness and cutting ability with an unbeatable warranty and a price-point very similar to Spyderco's. While the new 'Rat Trap' folder intrigues me, the execution of the liner lock is supposed to be pretty good, I've got a trillion :spyder: 's to buy before I get it. That said, their Howling Rat is amazing and is the fixed blade I carry most often.

The handle is a flat, boxy version of the Busse Combat EDC handle (the knife is the folding, S30V version of the Busse Active Duty), though there are some existing Spyderco handles (Chinook II, Manix, Military) that are similar.

At least they aren't ripping off :spyder: 's trademarked round opening hole and their warranty surpasses Strider's without the MSRP greatly exceeding :spyder: 's.

I handled it at blade. It is a sweet knife.
I plan on getting one as soon as they start shipping.
Kind of like a Military and a Strider AR had a child.

Nice folder. I was living under the impression that Swamp Rat makes only fixed blades. Isn't this Jennifer Busse's brand, BTW?

It's the Rat Trap from Swampratknives, there first folder. Unfortunately my list of must-buy Spyderco is quite large before this one :)

They said they were hopeing to have them in a week or 2.
Seems there is a problem with one of the sub parts and they will not ship any of them until they have them all fixed.

Looks a lot like the Manix to me. At least they got the clip positioned up high where I like it.

Thom, just curious...how does their warranty surpass Strider's?
Strider replaces it or fixes it without any charges or questions. Just wondering how any warranty could beat that?
