GentlePerson's Knife?

#1

Post by JDEE »

I am ready for my next Spydie - I am looking for something to "wear when I shouldn't be wearing a knife" in other words a "dress" or Gentlepersons knife. Not the Kiwi as it doesn't have a clip and An Ozzie Carrying a Kiwi! I was thinking of something like the Dragonfly. Any comments? Any other suggestions?

It shouldn't be to much longer for the Kopa.
A Santa Fe Stone works Cricket would be a nice one.
Another if you can find on would be a micarta Jess Horn,I had a 3/4 size one in white micarta.

Hi JDEE

Definitely a Dragonfly, ss, plain edge. A lovely little knife. Sits very nicely in a kydex neck sheath - just enough weight so you know its there and to keep it in place. I wonder what it would cost to have one nicely engraved with all the flowery bits you used to see on a good custom firearm?

Aloha!

I'd go Dragonfly or Cricket. Period...The SS Cricket is VERY flat and clips sturdily to just about anything, the ride is very discreet as well. Also, in "money clip" mode, it's invisible...sorta.

I have both the SS Cricket and Dragonfly. Of the two, I'd recommend the Cricket in a suit. It's much flatter and carry friendly. The Dragonfly is heavier and a bit pointier/uncomfy when clipped IWB/pocket.

cheers,

Wouter

Assuming it's legal to carry pocketknives, my suggestion is the Meerkat. They're brilliant.

Been beating on my SS Fly for 3yrs so far... still rock solid.

For about 40usd online, the 'fly makes a great suit carry. enough blade to do most light tasks, yet small enough to not cause a stampede if used around sheeple.

Toss a kydex rig on there, and you'll never take it off. Been wearing mine on my neck 24/7, 365, since January 03. It went back for sheath work this year and now I have a spare kydex rig for it too(got 2 this last time). I take mine off for the shower usually, but will just jump in with it on too.

Going out to a lake this weekend to veg, I'll just clean my fly the easy way if I jump in the lake... zippo fluid and miltech-1. Shake the water out, squirt of lighter fluid and fire it up! just miltech-1 the pivot and blade after... so far it's gone well.

I know this is a spyderco forum but the big spender from benchmade is a very good gentlemans knife.Small& very sharp it doubles as a defensive weapon. It cuts cake too.lol.
PS.A last resort defensive wepon.

Howz about the Spyderco Mouse?!! One of the most solid and surely a little critter.
I really hate the fact that I had to part with that one <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I´ll bet Java and Katz would say I´m right on target! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I'm with Samo on this one. Preferably the jigged bone version of Jess Horn <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I also like my Spyderco J D Smith as a mid-sized folder for dress carry. The micarta scales and light weight make it very convenient.

It is discontinued but I see it occasionally on the web.

How about this little one? Ti handles and Stellite 3K or S30V full flat grind blade. It's overall size is about 5".

Thanks everyone for your input - I have narrowed it down to the Cricket and the Dragaonfly. Maybe it will be simpler to get both.

Well after all that I got a shipment in which contained the Cricket, Dragonfly and the Delica and I went for the Delica the other 2 just didn't feel right to me although the Cricket may still be on the agenda. The main reasons for the switch to the Delica - the fit and the steel.
