Para Military home fixes.

Post by J Smith »

I just got another one as I sold the first one I had.The first one was of the first run and had the dentent cut all the way up,the lock was hard to opperate and the dentent was weeker than I like.

So today I got one of the updated ones.It is much better.I done some adjusting to it to get it perfect. The blade pivot was to loose so I tightened the pivot.Be careful when doing this,it only takes a very slight adjustment to make a big differance.Turning to much may be why some have had the pivot screw to break.

It also had the very slight up and down blade play and the compression lock was IMO to far over on the tang. Both of these problems were taken care of by slightly loosening one of the stop pin screws,by useing 2 T6 torx drivers, one on each side and rotateing the stop pin until the compression lock engaged the tang in the correct spot.It must be shaped like the ones in a Sebenza because when rotateing it the lock went from not engageing the tang at all to going almost all the way across the tang. This is a feature I was glad to see. After setting the stop pin in the correct place retighten the screws being sure not to turn the pin while tightening them.

Here is some more info on screw sizes. The clip side pivot screw is a T7,besure it is seated all the way in the screw. The walls for the T7 in this screw are shallow. The other side or front of the pivot is a 3/32 allen.

Over all with the improvement I really like it,I can even opperate the lock with my thumb.

The one thing I still just hate is the pivot screw. Please replace it with one like on the Military if at all possible.

Thanks for the very useful information! I have a somewhat unusual way of closing Spyderco lockbacks that seems to translate well to the Compression Lock. I put my index finger on the Hole (right side, as you look at the top of the knife in hand), and use my thumb to release the lock. My index finger controls the rotation of the blade as I close it, and I've been doing it this way long enough to push it open and closed with my index finger on the off side of the blade. Just remember to move your thumb out of the way as you flip the knife over to close it. For me, its a simple matter of just rolling my wrist to finish closing the knife. Haven't tried it on a PM, but it works with about all the other CL's I've used it on, from the Vesuvius to the ATR.

Jeff, just a small correction. The stop pin on the Sebenza is not a-symetric/eccentric. Rotating it should have no effect on the lock up position. If it does, either the knife is assembled wrong or the stop pin is damaged.
Good to hear you having a Para again!

Thanks Ted,It does makes a big differance by rotateing it.May be screwed up but it seems to be asymetric, just by rotateing it the lock will go from not engageing at all to sideing all most all the way across.

Jeff, that really should not be the case.
Have you cleaned it like I posted on BFC?
Otherwise, You really should e-mail Anne or Bridget at CRK and ask them about it.

Ted,I am sorry.I thought you were talking about the Para.
The Para is the one that I was talking about that rotateing the pin made a big differance.
Thats is probably the case with the Sebenza,I was just thinking that I had read somewhere that the Sebenza did have a stop pin like this.
