Almost a perfect match
Last Saturday I was heading out in my non-blue pair of jean shorts. Grabbed my latest knife and then noticed how well the scale matched my jeans. Got my computer working so here's a pic.

Can you guess the model?

Let's hope the picture works.
Way to big the first time.

Close. It's more of a tan G10 paramilitary. I don't think my color is quite right on the picture. I had it done by Chax Knives (Chase and Linda Axinn).
Here is a link to his pictures <a href="http://www.chaxknives.com/index_files/P ... tm">Custom Paramilitary</a>
Also here is another picture I took.

Java, email me your snail mail and I'll send it to ya when I get back from camping. This is my "scoutmaster" knife and our scout camping is next week. If you want to do something else just let me know.
Hopefully these links work.

CKE,
java had the same question. I'm sure when Chase was cutting the scales he was making them identical. It doesn't affect the performance and it is symmetrical. Plus getting tan G10 seemed like a great option since the tan is fairly close to the light brown of the boy scout uniform. The fleur-di-lis is used quite often in scout items. On this knife that is the most time consuming (and expensive) part of this job. Chase had to cutout the scale and then put in the fleur in red micarta. I believe that the tips of the large section could be more pointed out. For me the work came out great. We'll see how it performs at camp<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Edited to ask, I guess he milled the slots out for the liners????? CNC machine as I can't see how it would have been done by hand. Did he give you any info about this??? If you don't mind me asking?

Jeff,
Thanks..and that's fine (I'd be willing to pay for the clip). If he happens to take you up on the offer, would you be willing to bead-blast a clip for me if I send one to you? I would like to have one done and there's noone around here that can do it.

Hi all,
Just back from a week at Boy Scout camp. Jeff, thanks for the offer. I'll send it off to java. As far as cost Chase has 'basic' list of his costs. This custom mod was about list price for the original. Where $50 alone was for the inlay. You should get any current quote from Chase. I've also noticed that part of the scale color is changing. I figure either from dirty/oily hands, so if you want a user consider this. It's not staying perfect with use. (nor did I really expect it to).
Alex, for the performance it works like the original, I almost wish I could have used it more. The pivot is still tight from the assembly. I also rinsed out watermelon rind and juices so it now need a good reoiling.
CKE, I don't know if he uses CNC. I know he does much by hand. If you look carefully at his photos on the non lock side the liner is skeletonized. He engraved my name in the G10 so that it is inside the liner.

That was sweet work all around, Chris. I like the inlaid Fleur de Lis especially.
What's the status on the ivory connection. I've shipped some MOP scales to Vox along with a herd of Micarta for a custom Vox push dagger for Mrs Java. I'll post whenever the "creation" arrives. Currently just sitting and working the Fulcrum. She is one solid folder. May even supplant the Chinook as a camping staple. Let me know when you send the clip out.....
