I know they can't hold a candle to Spyderco knives, but I really like my Opinel knife. I think it's a #8, with a carbon steel blade. It takes a great edge, although the edge retention can't compare to my calypso jr. Opinel knives may not be my favorite, but for $10 you just can't go wrong...
I have two CRKT knivess - a Stiff KISS - very handy to keep in my pack when camping - very light and sturdy - and their small folding KISS - I just like the simplicity and clever engineering of it - hardly ever carry it though - it just can't beat a Spyderco!
gerber gator, love that handle. but now i carry a slick wenger in the pocket in stead of giant monster on a sheath. i still carry a 15 year old vicotnox in my pocket if it's good enouph for f. garry powers iis good enoph for me.
Olfa Touch-Knife. I feel like a cat with claws...well claw. Handiest **** thing around: box cutter extraodinaire, letter opener, chip bag cutter, thread snipper and best of all it looks like a round fruity plastic key fob. The scary wife calls it a "face slasher"...go figure.
Other than a Spyderco knife my daily carry includes a Victorinox - Executive model. A small multi-blade at 2 1/4" length, with a large (relative to this knife) blade, small blade, nailfile with nail cleaner, scissors, orange peeler with screwdriver, key ring, tweezers and a toothpick. A constant companion in my left front pocket.
I have to say, the Buck Pony is my favorite non-spyder b/c it looks fantastic(real wood handle, stainless ends) and b/c it has two blades which have just the right amount of tension to say closed
I like the Cammilus EDC, but one think I don't like about it is that the blade edge goes nearly to the handle. Spydies don't have an edge near the handle which I think is safer, particularly when closing with 1 hand.
